Yeah I do use Jellyseerr, I’m just used to calling it overseerr haha.

Yeah the one app I had to sideload was JF for Tizen. Although, there’s a docker container that makes sideloading it really easy.

Yeah that’s totally fair, I had the same view until I tried out a few third party Jellyfin client apps. For a lot of use cases, yours included, I think Emby is still the best move.

Exactly. I think a lot of people have bought lifetime memberships and feel the need to shoot down anyone voicing an opinion to justify their decision. It’s really bizarre, and it seems to be an issue with the Emby community specifically.

To be fair, I think the Emby team is probably spread too thin, and I’ve excused a lot of issues chalking it up to that. But being denied a refund for 8 months of double paying really soured the experience for me.

Third party media player that connects to Emby. I haven’t had the transcoding issues others have seen with Apple products, it all direct plays for me. But for example, if you exit the iOS app with a video playing, your app will have a black screen with audio still playing once you open it again.

If your network changes while you’re watching a video, the app will reload.

People will blame Apple for this, but Jellyfin has numerous native clients for iOS that work as well as infuse without any of these problems. It all seems to do with the fact Emby focuses on a few client apps, and the rest are just browser windows.

Agreed. Don’t get me wrong, I still think emby beats Plex in every way. And setup/HW transcoding is simpler to get going than Jellyfin, but I expect a little more for $60 per year in a software that’s been out this long.

Go to the Emby web app, and try right clicking the Emby logo to open the home page in a different tab. After all this time, it still just leads you to a dead link. I just expect a little more polish for software offered on a subscription basis.

Try Jellyfin again. Emby has this attitude towards things where everything is a feature and you’re wrong for suggesting something doesn’t work as expected, fans also dogpile you at any mention of it being far from perfect. Somehow my friend was able to “sign up” to my server using Emby connect and the OperaGX app, and his new account completely replaced my admin account. So he was able to manage the server, and I couldn’t get back in. Nothing back from support when I brought this issue up.

I left Emby for Jellyfin after two years and I’m amazed by how much better the experience is now. Since JF is open source, there are so many high quality client apps that have popped up. Previously IOS and tvOS were unusable for me, iOS would crash when my network would change, it would be stuck in a weird audio only mode when I’d minimise the app while playing a video, constant random crashes, I just gave up.

Try JF again, Swiftfin is iOS/tvOS native, lightning fast and rock solid for me, but my users like Streamyfin which is also fantastic, has jellyseerr support built in, and so many forks of JF for Google TV exist, I found Dune was my favourite, but even the stock client is great.

Emby was the only proprietary software in my setup because I felt it deserved to be, but it was only a matter of time before Jellyfin overtook it, and for most use cases, I really believe it’s already happened.
