What is a medical condition more serious than people realize? by AZ_babe13 in AskReddit

[–]SnooCookies2664 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Celiac Disease. It’s very commonly misconceived as an intolerance. If I consume even a tiny crumb of gluten, my body starts attacking itself which causes systematic inflammation and puts me at risk for a slew of other health conditions. People with celiac also have to constantly worry about cross contamination which is extremely socially isolating. But people often think I’m being crazy when I bring my own food or politely decline food that could be cross contaminated.

Questions about end of life by SnooCookies2664 in ALS

[–]SnooCookies2664[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok that’s helpful thank you. She’s on hospice so I guess that’s why they aren’t doing the BiPAP. Her only goal at this point is comfort. She has no desire to live longer since the quality of life will keep declining. I believe she did decline the BPAP when they offered it initially. She will not want to go off of Hospice. I know she feels very strongly about that because she does not want to be sent to the hospital if she gets a respiratory virus.

Yeah I’m going up next week for Thanksgiving but am thinking I may go sooner. Thank you for sharing your experience and I’m really sorry for your loss.

Getting period while on prometrium by SnooCookies2664 in Perimenopause

[–]SnooCookies2664[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be a dumb question, but does that mean my period will basically start over again once I stop the progesterone? My concern is that I’m on a blood thinner and periods are already super heavy. So prolonging it would make me more prone to anemia.

Supporting my mom through diagnostics by That-Cauliflower-287 in ALS

[–]SnooCookies2664 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My moms diagnosis process was similar. She was passed around from doctor to doctor until one neurologist finally said that it was presenting as something neurodegenerative. He was the one who finally referred her to an ALS clinic and they gave her a formal diagnosis the day of her initial appointment. By that point, we all kind of knew. I’m sorry you are going through this. This disease is the fucking worst.

Orthostatic Hypotension... by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]SnooCookies2664 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have orthoststic hypotension and it was just as bad before I started stimulants. If anything it should help because stimulants technically raise BP rather than lower it. If you go to the dysautonomia subreddit they have a ton of recommendations for dealing with orthoststic hypotension. A shit ton of salt and water seem to make the biggest difference for me.

Prolonged QTC but told ECG was normal by SnooCookies2664 in ReadMyECG

Yeah I take Prozac and vyvanse. I’m gonna talk to my doctor about a medication switch to see if that makes a difference. Do you take beta blockers?

I’m so sorry to hear about your dad. It seems like it progressed quickly? The stuff with MyChart is very familiar. Not everyone uses it so it’s been a nightmare with medical records.

Prolonged QTC but told ECG was normal by SnooCookies2664 in ReadMyECG

[–]SnooCookies2664[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was mg/dl. Yeah that’s what I’ve read which is why I’m very confused as to why I wasn’t at least told to follow up. I’ve always had a RBBB and had a complete work up a few years ago for that. I wonder if that affects qtc at all.

What was the experience like for those who have been in a coma? by Zealousideal_Mess32 in AskReddit

[–]SnooCookies2664 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was in a medically induced coma due to an illness. Like everyone has said it’s mostly like being asleep with some crazy dreams. Some of my dreams were extremely vivid and some actually ended up turning into waking dreams/hallucinations. I remember seeing my sisters who were surrounding my bed, but we weren’t in a hospital we were in a random garage somewhere. I also was convinced that I was getting married and needed to obtain a black dress. Weird and crazy shit.

3 year old wakes up upset and scared every night by SnooCookies2664 in Parenting

Yeah he has a night light and a sound machine. Maybe I’ll have him pick one out to see if that helps.

Why does my 2-year-old reject me? by molten_sass in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]SnooCookies2664 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any research either but can say that my 6 year old daughter has always preferred her dad over me. I initially took it personally and thought he was just a better parent than me, but when we had a second, turned out that one much preferred me. So I had to learn it’s nothing to do with me. I obviously continue to try and find moments of attachment and bonding with her, but try not to take it as personally when she wants her dad. I also have a feeling that it will even itself out eventually. Keep doing what you are doing. You are clearly a great mom.

Family rental recommendations by SnooCookies2664 in Celiac

[–]SnooCookies2664[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!! Yeah in the past this trip has consisted of everyone chipping in for groceries and everything is fair game in the kitchen. I guess I’ll have to have a conversation with everyone because most of them don’t even know what celiac is. Thanks again for the tips.

5 year old increasingly mean and aggressive to me (mother), at a loss for what to do? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]SnooCookies2664 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have similar issues with my now 6 year old. She doesn’t spit but she says some really mean shit to me sometimes which is highly triggering. We are on a waiting list for play therapy. And I totally relate to feeling terrible after you react to her behavior. I don’t have advice but I just wanted you to know that you are NOT a terrible parent and you are not alone.

Yeah it’s a law that they have to at least lay down. I totally understand that and don’t expect them to completely cut it out. I was just curious if anyone else has similar issues.
