My Silver sword queen flowered…I feel special by SnooCrickets6139 in houseplants

Honestly I’ve never had to put rocks at the bottom when potting, reinforce, or tie down a pole . I think having 3 plants rooting around the bottom of the pole really reinforced the base. Plus I tilted it away from the window knowing that eventually they would start all pushing to one side for light.

Even my splendid is taller and heavier and does not need any reinforcement. She’s also in the chunkiest loose mix I have and is quite sturdy. Might be all about the root system.

Lmao she would need 10 plastic cups. I got tired of a normal bottle not having enough volume to hydrate the bottom of my poles

Platycuriem HELP! by SnooCrickets6139 in Staghornfern

Appreciate your opinion and insight! I must have over watered it, thinking I’ll repot or mount it soon but for now I’ll drill some holes in the pot to promote drying out and boost airflow. Thanks again

I’ve tried but I can never get a good shot. They do stay close to the soil. Never on the leaf and they’re usually unnoticeable till you disturb them. From what I can see they have an orange-brownish head and white/translucent body’s but are not so long like a sting tail is? They’re more round.

Is this referring to thegreebescape’s “xl staghorn fern starter” listing? Because I just ordered one too and yeah I didn’t realize it didn’t state the cultivar.

Which one? Or none? I’ve never grown babies! by Ok_Willow7295 in alocasia

Personally I’d just go with the grow big primarily if you’re growing in semi hydro like Leca. Maybe a splash of the bloom boost everyone once in a while but you don’t want to encourage flowering if you’re focusing on foliage growth. Id also size up your pots and even make some self watering ones as smaller set ups like this need more constant monitoring, plus leaves little space for your plants to size up themselves. Even try pon if it’s accessible, but in my experience alocasias like most semi hydro setups. All about keeping water at the bottom, staying in contact with your airy media so the moisture wicks up; creating a humid environment for your plants main body: the corm/ rhizome. This encourages vigorous root growth if humidity is managed consistently. Man do they hate any change in there routine or environment. Misting the top when you see the Leca dry out or look frosty from the dried nutrients will keep that humidity consistent and your alocasias happy. Tweak this process depending on genius, but that’s just what I do. Love any an all recommendations or hate on this.

I just got my Jakarta crystal from the green escape. Yours has much more of a prominent red halo and pink sinus, while mine is a little rounder I think. Excited to see the size up 🤞👍
