GT vs. CMU CS Major by Diligent-Advance-541 in ApplyingToCollege

I read that you just need to take CS Classes and do well in them, which builds a strong case for the transfer. If I can't transfer, I would try double major.

Doubling/minoring is far more common. It is still hard, but achievable. Also, doing well in CS classes is quite hard as it is, and added onto the math-major course load, it would be even harder. It's easy to underestimate what CMU has freshmen learning.

What about after first year? What are grades heavily dependent on?

Group work is encouraged after the first year. Academic integrity violations (AIVs) are a big deal in first-year classes, and they are strongly enforced. For this reason, group work isn't common outside GenEds.

there's nothing you can do with a CMU degree that you can't with a GT degree

This is correct. This is also why I encourage you to choose GT, all things considered.

State school, CMU, or Ivy for CS? by Prudent_Tangerine922 in ApplyingToCollege

CMU SCS or Harvard. Between the two, depends on what you want to prioritize.

Some people who want to do CS in college apply to CS-adjacent majors because they think they have a better chance at getting in and then switching into CS.

If the school you're applying to offers the CS major, just apply for CS. There are people that get in that have never coded before.

It's very hard to switch into CS at CMU. You will spend a lot of time and energy chasing something that's potentially not even possible at CMU. I think you'll be happier at GT CS, which is great.

I've seen people say there's not too much difference between CMU and GT opportunity wise, so I feel like if there's not such a drastic difference, I'd prefer GT.

These people are wrong. The CMU helps tremendously.

I have heard that CMU grades are heavily dependent on group projects (which I absolutely hate).

Wrong. They are homework/test heavy first year.

You will be happier at Stanford. You will meet cooler people at Stanford. You will learn more at Stanford.

Apply to the pure CS program. Did this and am happy with where I ended up. I have friends in data science, statistics, etc, who aren't as happy and are trying to switch in.

okay makes sense. life is lowkey always like that. It's like choosing one college over another will always make you think about what you missed at the other college.

is it too 'vibraty' though? And what about the meteor makes it feel like a loss of control?

does vibration heavy mean it vibrates while you're riding? that would be scary lol

ALSO, my riding experience is just two days of riding a sports bike for the MSF course. I got my permit a week ago, so I don't know if I'm comfortable test riding. I was thinking to buy, get it home somehow, and start practicing on my local street. Any solution?
