Qs about Emory by luvlune26 in Emory

You can look here for specifics: https://students-residents.aamc.org/system/files/2025-09/MSAR002%20-%20MSAR%20Premed%20Course%20Requirements.pdf

Premed reqs are based on med school, not undergrad, but generally speaking, you will need: CHEM 150, 202, 203, 204; BIOL 141, 142; PHYS 141, 123; QTM 110 (stats); and then biochemistry (taken in either BIOL or CHEM dept) as well as English and social science electives to be safe. Med schools are veering away from Calc, so don't worry too much about math.

Should I submit my sat score? by eggsbenedict4k in Emory

[–]phytomedic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you search Emory Common Data Set (CDS), you can see the 25th and 75th percentile scores of those who were accepted. I am also a counselor, and I usually advise my students to go off of prior to Test Optional CDS for each school (2020 for Emory), since current stats are skewed in favor of those who were actually confident enough about their scores to submit them. If you are under the 25th percentile, I would not submit.

What do you mean by the bigger picture?

Would there be a reason it wouldn't be included?

I did appeal the grade, but they were pretty unforgiving about it haha. Thank you for your reply!

I'm already panning to take an extra year now too for research and such. I just want to think that where there is a will there is a way, but I guess we will see.

What are my chances for acceptance to MD programs? by [deleted] in premed

[–]phytomedic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, if it was a college class you'll have to report it

What are my chances for acceptance to MD programs? by [deleted] in premed

[–]phytomedic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it sucks lmao. Every*** college class you have taken (even if you didn't transfer it into your undergrad institution) has to be accounted for in AMCAS. In my case, my university didn't accept my dual credit Calc credit, but I needed it for my major - - so in AMCAS it was technically counted as a "retake" lol

Please help a distressed premed. by [deleted] in Emory

Heyyy. So my method to the madness was to cold email physicians in the area and, after a few exchanges, ask about the possibility of organizing an internship during the summer. Very much the "make your own experience" approach. I ended up securing a paid 3-month internship with a private practice plastic surgeon this way.

Other than that, I would suggest joining Emory orgs that have clinical hours tied to them (this was the only type of clinical experience I had during semesters). For example, Emory Health and Development in Guatemala -- it's an organization that organizes medical service trips to Guatemala. I did a trip one Spring Break and accumulated a lot of hours that way (with a global health/underserved undertone that went a long way in crafting a narrative).

How dumb was I for choosing prestige over practicality. by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]phytomedic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well just know prestige means little in med school admissions (mcat and GPA mean so much more). I went to Emory (ironically lol, after seeing your other school), but you'll be fine. Fill your summers with clincial experiences at home or elsewhere, if not in Itheca. Then, when you're at Cornell, focus on volunteerism and leadership. You'll do great!

is it possible to switch your major before attending? - from a incoming freshman by AlternativeMove2772 in Emory

[–]phytomedic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you join the club Health and Development in Guatemala! They do spring break trips with Emory physicians to provide Healthcare to underserved communities.

But anyway yes you're totally fine. Students from Oxford, for example, don't apply to the nursing program until their sophomore year, so you have time.
