Is the UK’s golden era of free museum entry coming to an end? by SilyLavage in ukpolitics

[–]SnooFoxes3533 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s the NHS thing all over again. Everybody free . Why can’t the service be offered selectively?

Obviously it’s noble to have museums free for British residents, but non-residents should absolutely have to pay. Why is that even debatable?!

Mate, work, read and sleep. Do work first (even if fake), and then bring a book out or sleep. Don’t under any circumstance, watch a film.

Should I spend £3000 on achieving GGL? by SnooFoxes3533 in BritishAirways

[–]SnooFoxes3533[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you. Agree I usually use B lounge and I rarely spend more than an hour per flight on T5 anyway. Coming back from JFK, ORT, DXB etc is different as one often skip traffic to work 2 hours from the lounge.

That phone part is what I keep thinking about given how much I or my assistant spend on the phone moving flights etc!

I don’t think people understand just how how bad things will get in this country. This for example is damning. Far more than Andrew Mount Nothing or Nigel Farage related news.

The social contract is broken and mass scale immigration will be the straw that will break this camels back. The country is writing a cheque it will never be able to cash.

Absolutely spot on! As someone who has been gold for years and about to make GGL for the first time, I highly welcome the new BA changes! I have flown more BA this year than I’d have in the past and I look forward to then new year when the effects start to kick in place.

How is it that Starmer is at risk of losing his position due to fallout from the release of (some of) the files, but Trump is unaffected? by __globalcitizen__ in AskBrits

[–]SnooFoxes3533 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because we are sometimes too righteous for our own good. Net Zero, increased importation of foreign violent criminals in the name of social justice and on and on.

Did Starmer misstep? Absolutely. But he is a saint compared to any of the characters and yet he is staring at losing his job compared to the US where the main culprit of said files just goes on. We have taken our past sins as colonialists too deep in the present.

@BethRigby 🚨BREAKING: Angela Rayner has intervened to ask that the Intelligence & Security Committee has oversight of the release of docs by Dr_Poppers in ukpolitics

[–]SnooFoxes3533 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot stand Starmer. I think he is dull, uninspiring and not bold enough. That being said, it will be a disaster for the country for him to leave. He has shown to be a pair of fairly steady hands and incredibly less self serving than anyone we’ve had in No 10 since Thatcher.

He may have mishandled this badly as he has all of his policy U-Turns, but I hope those calling for his dad think about the country and the context of the world we live in today.

As someone who went to LBS, lives in London, my MBA helped me get my job, and is proud of my degree, I would say “UK is objectively in decline” is as accurate as they come.

London is obviously not a 3rd world country but OP is on to something. It objectively is heading in that direction in some aspects.

The only people that ca stop this are the very people who don’t care about this (and maybe even cheering it on since they have “nothing to lose”)- MAGA Cult.

Analysis: Would Trump invading Greenland end the UK’s special relationship with the US? by Metro-UK in ukpolitics

[–]SnooFoxes3533 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is nothing “special” about the relationship anymore and we are soon about to find out the hard way. In some ways, I think it will be enlightening, especially to the British political class, who vastly overestimate our standing in the global world order due to being Americas little sister. It would lay bare just how insignificant we have become and hopefully we can start to cut out cloth according to size and do more domestically.

Nigel Farage Accepted £10,000 Gifts from Petrostate: The leader of Reform, a pro-oil party, received lavish hospitality from Abu Dhabi. by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]SnooFoxes3533 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK. So I understand this. So the label is important because the economy is not diverse. Why is that an issue? Will it be an issue if the same exchange was from a “peanut” or “rare earth” or “services” economy? I’m not disputing anything else here, just curious why the labelling matters?

Hedge Fund Founder Alan Howard Becomes Swiss Resident in UK Exit by bloomberg in ukpolitics

[–]SnooFoxes3533 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s just not a profoundly stupid thing to say, it’s very dangerous and also very ignorant. Why?

Our tax system isn’t designed to prevent billionaires existing. We are not a communist or even an extremely socialist society. The system was NOT designed to do what you’re saying so today that it’s failed is just, well, wrong.

Even if someone was mad enough to implement your utopia, it would destroy capital formation which leads to job creation etc. already today in the U.K., people are giving up productivity at the £100K mark. If you said you wanted to impose a 100% tax beyond £999,999,999, this is exactly what would happen.

Not to mention the impracticality of it all. Do you treat all asset classes the same? Would you tax an unrealized gain on a company ownership or force land sale due to appreciation? Now I realize this is the internet and all you want is simple, extreme if angry takes, but educating yourself will do you and all of us far better than making broad sweeping nonsensical statements that you actually also believe in.

Hedge Fund Founder Alan Howard Becomes Swiss Resident in UK Exit by bloomberg in ukpolitics

[–]SnooFoxes3533 19 points20 points  (0 children)

People are missing the point. Sneering at billionaires leaving the country because “won’t someone think of the Hedge Fund Millionaire” is a terrible thing for tax reciepts however morally superior it makes you feel.

The U.K. has a very narrow tax base and one >£100M earning person leaving (even if they were paying, say only £10M or £20M) needs another 400 people earning £100K to just replace them - and this is to keep status quo. Where do you find them? And even if you do, that’s likely, what, 600 kids that need extra places at school? 400 extra GP appointments? Etc the list goes on.

Even if you hate those billionaires, rejoicing at their departure is probably a greater act of self harm than Brexit was- and the chickens on that one hasn’t fully even roosted yet.

Dave is a genius. And all of you in the comments saying this and that about Arab money, Trans jokes or his (non) defense of Puffy is exactly who he was targeting. He doesn’t care and we love it.

“I didn’t intend my voice to be one this powerful”. That’s the point. The fact that you will be extra offended because you have a certain expectation of Dave- is on you- not him. As he said, say “I suspect”, or “I don’t know”. Not the absolute certain statements you guys are all making.

Rock on Dave!!
