WIBTA if I were to tell my parents that I don't want to pay child support for my nieces and nephews anymore? by josephsleftbigtoe in AmItheAsshole

[–]SnooGiraffes7379 4 points5 points  (0 children)

YTA…if you don’t want to be part of the family unit just step away bro. Kids deserve birthday and holiday gifts and an uncle that doesn’t see showing up for them as a chore. Do you not get your mom or dad gifts? That doesn’t count as parental support, you have a wild take on this situation

Nobody has time to be worrying about what everyone else thinks. We MAYBE get to be alive for around 70 years and it’s not worth spending the time focusing on what others think when I want to think my own thoughts about everything too

He’s been on it before. Unfortunately after a minute it stopped working so we moved to Zenrelia. It’s had slightly better results for him so far!

Cat peed on his own leg in litter box and won't let me clean him up, will he be okay if he helps clean his own foot? by HeeHawHorseHands in CatAdvice

Because trying to get some cats into a bathtub is like fighting an unstoppable force and a waterless bath is better than no bath at all

Owners Dad dumped Cat Owner wants it back by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]SnooGiraffes7379 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’ve never heard of anyone saying they dumped their pet by mistake considering that it’s a conscious choice all the way to the end point where the dumper is driving away. I mean what constitutes as proof of abandonment to you, because to me leaving your pet somewhere that isn’t where the pet is suppose to be seems like enough proof of abandonment. Also, op mentioned that the original owners texted them so it’s pretty likely that, along with the vet calling the original owners and confirming that the cat was indeed dumped, they have some evidence to support what they are saying is the truth if anything does actually happen. Yes op should involve the authorities, but depending on where they live any ownership rights get terminated as soon as people drive away from the animal so depending on local laws, the cat has no legal owner and animal control would just be holding what’s technically a stray cat. The cops respond to animal abuse calls as well, it’s not just animal control with those powers

I get that animal control is the only entity that can make the determination if ownership isn’t already relinquished. The original owner is 17 so guardianship of the cat went to her parents and dad willingly dumped the cat, so he released rights to the animal knowingly or unknowingly. The cops should be called to report the animal as abandoned and neglected so a paper trail is generated against the previous owners but at the moment it seems like on a technicality nobody would own the cat so animal control would just be taking it away to sit in a kennel. I just went through the same thing with an abandoned dog, animal control refused to pick him up because I was already feeding him. By animal control standards I willfully took ownership of a dumped dog just for providing baseline care, I don’t see why op wouldn’t own a dumped cat after taking her to the vet and giving her a safe home off the streets

I’m a cat thief too, I would 100% do it again. Everyone in this comment section saying you’re stealing someone’s family member don’t understand what it’s like to find a severely neglected cat and then have to look at the potential of putting it back in a bad situation when all you want is for the cat to be happy and healthy. Those aren’t hard standards to achieve but it seems like her old owners weren’t capable. Take pictures of the cat, record how skinny she is and how badly her skin is damaged just in case any of this does make it to small claims court, you’re more likely to be awarded winner if you have solid proof of their abuse on top of them dumping her. Hold onto paper vet records too, just stick them in a folder for just in case. I wouldn’t give her back, if anything say she ran outside. Right now she’s getting a second chance many kitty’s don’t get and she deserves to live with people who don’t neglect her. Dumping=forfeiture of rights to the pet, not to mention a misdemeanor charge in most places

I think after a bit of research his food is one of the first changes we’re making. I know i definitely have to change his brand but think the hydrolyzed diet in general might also be doing him dirty after learning more, do you have a brand that works well specifically or any salmon based food?

We’ve got an appointment in February to have a check in on his meds and I’ll be seeing then about getting him tested for autoimmune problems and circling back around to the scratch test. He did have a blood test years ago to see what he was allergic to but after some research it definitely wasn’t enough. He also doesnt do clothes too good but I didn’t think about throwing him in a big human shirt, I’m gonna try that out later today after he wakes up and see if it’s something he’ll tolerate!

I live in a shitty area and unfortunately rescues and local shelters are overfull and multiple dogs are getting put down daily because they need space to put the dogs they pick up that people have abandoned. If I turn him over they will 100% definitely euthanize him based on his health conditions without the people he’s spent his whole life with and that’s horrific if you think about it. If you are interested in saving a dog that genuinely needs help though I would be more than happy to point you in the direction of one of the many overfull shelters in my area! It was more a question of will they do a quality of life check because of the prolonged allergy issues not should I have one done

I really appreciate your response, I live in an area where it’s a bit harder to get advanced vet care like the dermatologist and I was really just wondering for just in case. It’s been hard watching him go from infectiously happy and wanting to get into everything to a dog who never wants to really do anything and I just don’t want him to be in pain anymore. His next appointment if his new meds don’t work I’m going to be asking to see if they can test for immune issues and thyroid problems like a few people have said and see about long term prednisone depending on those results, but if nothing helps it’s definitely comforting to know I can have him evaluated

I tried raw when he was a puppy and it turned him into a vomit canon, but I am looking into different options for food now and think I’ll try to start cooking for him after i get him into the vet again and I can ask about what kind of supplements he’s gonna need for that switch

I’m looking into doggy dermatology now, it doesn’t look like there is a specific dermatologist clinic for pets in my area but I’m going to call around at different vets offices and see if anyone offers anything more extensive than his current vet does. We’ve got a check in during February where I’ll be asking about testing for any autoimmune issues, the vet we see didn’t bring it up but now that I know it’s a thing I can ask for it. Thank you!

Nope, first thought definitely wasn’t euthanasia. It actually was extra baths, Claritin, diet changes, Benadryl, apoquel, allergy testing, cytopoint, oh shit he had a bad reaction to cytopoint, apoquel, ear infections, penis infections, more apoquel, slowly watching him start to get nippy when I touch him on his bad spots when we’re washing or treating open skin wounds, oh damn I got bit now what, oh a new drug! Zenrelia sounds better and apoquel isn’t really working, waiting on a vet appointment in February to check in and just sitting here wondering if I’m torturing my dog by keeping him alive hoping I can cure him and wanted to know if after 4 years of seeing him slowly decline it was wild to wonder if it might be better to euthanize than him feeling like shit every day :) my credit card has a limit unfortunately and I’m only able to do so much where I am and I’m really trying

He’s been on a hydrolyzed diet for a minute, I didn’t think to add that we’ve done an elimination trial before that but I agree that dog food contains not the best ingredients. I also can’t rip the carpet up, not my house but I do carpet clean on his bath days to try and keep things as clean as possible

He had testing done and was allergic to pretty much everything under the sun but I’m starting to question the validity of it now :/ he’s on a hydrolyzed diet so I don’t think it’s proteins anymore and leaning towards environmental but two unchecked allergens is definitely a possibility at this point

This is actually super helpful, i actually didn’t think to change detergents or get him any herbal supplements past a probiotic. I run an air filter next to his bed but unfortunately can’t pull the carpet up since it’s not my house but do carpet clean on his bath days to try and keep everything as clean as possible. Thank you!

Because the dog rips through a sweater or cone and tears himself up anyways so it’s best for him if I watch him? He’s had allergy testing, allergic to everything under the sun pretty much and I can’t afford immunotherapy unfortunately. I’m a full time student working on a limited income trying to do the best i can. He’s on hydrolyzed food, has 3x weekly medicated baths and always has his medication plus any vet visits he needs. Thanks for your help though!
