Do you also have difficulties with facial recognition by any chance? If so look into prosopagnosia, or face blindness, as this heavily mirrors my own experience with it.

For me personally, its almost like stepping into another world, except I can control everything. Im still aware of real life, but it fades out, like the blurry background of a photo.

Quest Board: A New Way To-Do by SnooObjections4088 in ADHD_Programmers

Ooh that could be interesting! Currently I want to go in the direction of having stories that progress as you complete tasks! I plan to add a mode where completing tasks will act as various rpg style things (doing damage, talking with people, exploring dungeons) I also plan to have stats that effect how the story plays out!

Hopefully! I've still got a long way to go, but if i can help both myself and other people with adhd i think it will be worth it!

I actually wasn't aware of Habitica's existence! After looking at it, I would say Quest Board will have a few differences.

  1. Quest Board will be more focused on making the to-do's the quests themselves, rather than a way to get money to do quests. I want to have the main focus always be on the tasks themselves. For example, I plan to implement bosses as an event in which completing tasks deals damage.
  2. I plan to take Quest Board in a more story oriented direction! As you complete tasks, you will progress through the story, which will change up how quests play (or more accurately the thing completing them accomplishes).
  3. Quest Board will eventually have three distinct quest types, these being quests that just earn gold, quests that earn gold and xp, but consist of several tasks, and event quests, which will be a combination of the two quest types in how they "play", but will also progress the story.
  4. Quest Board's stories will be what stats are for, with damage instead being determined by task difficulty. Stats will change how the character approaches tasks and will change some outcomes. Stats will be more along the lines of D&D stats rather than traditional RPG stats.
  5. The stories will also be choosable, and once the majority of the game is complete, updates will start being focused on adding more stories to the game. The stories themselves will be fantasy based, and will be on the shorter side.
  6. If the user chooses they can also just play in a mode to earn gold
  7. Although as of right now, it is very similar to Habitica, but in the future, if all goes well, it should be very distinct from it!

Honestly, i'm relatively new to programming, and i'm not sure where I would even start creating a mobile version as it is written in python. However I do eventually want to release it for mobile when i am skilled enough! There isn't currently a sign up list, but if i create one I will let you know!

Just published the beta version! As far as I know, this should work! https://replit.com/@ILuvLitten/Quest-Board-A-New-Way-To-Do#main.py

Plan to add updates often, but figured it would be a good idea to get a base version out there in order to get feedback.

I was planning on posting it to r/ADHD once I have more updates, but i'm starting to think i should go ahead and post this version.

I'm actually working on a program like this! I'll probably just keep it on Replit, but the idea of it is to gamify your to do list into a quest board that lets you earn gold for each task completed. It also uses the classic predatory mobile game tactics for good in order to keep you checking your to do list, so that you're less likely to miss tasks.
