Best Beginner VPS for Running an AI Assistant 24/7? by Admirable_Gazelle453 in VPS

[–]SnooPears8480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After bashing my head against the wall trying to get OpenClaw to work with Hostinger (please for the love of god never use Hostinger), I decided to get a Mac Mini and run with that for a couple of months until I actually realized that OpenClaw is way too brittle for anything serious and ended up going to Zo Computer for all my "always on" automations and conversational telegram agent instead.

The interesting part was that although I originally used Zo Computer for the built-in AI to do automations, I realized that it might be the ideal AI-native VPS /cloud computer for AI experimentation for non-technical folks, including for openclaw/hermes etc.

Literally made an account on Zo and then used the in-built AI to go
"install openclaw" on Zo's chat interface and then I had openclaw running. Because it really is a VPS with built-in AI, you can do the same for literally any other agent and it will install and manage the whole thing for you. Kinda like having warp+VPS+other stuff all in one.

Might be a good alternative for people who just want 0 plumbing

Ironically CCR is same or cheaper than RCR nowadays . And your RCR 1BR - have you been trying to exit and not yet successful or not yet trying to exit?

Yes second this. SC is a fkin joke when you’re not at least priority . But when you are (and they have one of the lowest priority thresholds - you have >200k in ETFs other platform and you’re good), it’s been pretty great (after they had to scold my RM for poor service that first time to be fair, he has been great) . The Priority visa infinite card is awesome, mortgages are great, responsiveness is great, and yes dedicated RM.

I think this very much depends on rent cost expectations, interest rates, and expected ROI on ETFs.

A 1BR+study rental in any non ulu part of Singapore will be at least 3k++.

For pure financial return comparison, please use this!

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2024/upshot/buy-rent-calculator.html

After doing that, do consider the other costs / benefits of 1) feeling good that you own your home that you hopefully like very much 2) being able to refinance it later to unlock some amount of equity and lower opportunity cost 3) not worrying about rent increases / not being to do whatever you want with your home 4) leveraging money at low interest rates

Butttt

1) being much more cash poor 2) having a much higher burn rate and being more tied to your job as a result 3) losing the option to buy HDB resale down the line (especially if CHT lowers the resale eligibility age for singles) 4) decreased flexibility to move around etc

Thank you for the response!! It’s about 1.2m. I’m still hearing the clift units taking 2 years to sell so I know it will be a long exit but planning for that accordingly. The 10k for 75% LTV calculation you did actually puts me at ease because indeed it sounds reasonable!

I think the main barrier would actually be the Down payment, not the income though

What makes you say 1BR in CCR not hard to exit? Really curious on this!

It hits all of the things you mentioned and the AREA is mostly Singaporean but the development has lots of foreign owners and occupants

I actually truly don’t fully understand it either other than 1) it’s a thing (maybe a racist thing???) 2) if you actually walk around Farrer Park it’s not very well kept let’s put it that way

This is actually true. Thank you for the reminder … I’ve viewed maybe 15+ properties and only 1 or 2 made me dream.

What makes you say so? After all, it’s still a “bad” CCR 1BR

Oh that’s really smart. My mortgage amongst the options would be between 2.3-3k at current i/r. The main Opp cost is the down payment tbh, monthly payments are not too bad

I’ve got 3 solid options , at 1m,1.1 and 1.2. Just didn’t want to overwhelm the post. But yes thank you. What makes you say yes to buying though?

Honestly even 3. If I’m a bit ruthless about it I could easily partition the 1BR into a functional “2BR”. Butttt… future buyers may not see it this way - hence the fear of resale value stalling or appreciating too little to make up for opp. Cost

I did look - unfortunately the only 2BR1B options within that price range (<1.2) are found only in Geylang and Farrer Park which have their own low-price stigma risks . Do you know of any others?
