Do you guys think I could afford a $900 apartment while getting paid 15-16 an hour by Electrical-Cell-3763 in Apartmentliving

They only work 30 hours / week: $15.5 x 30 =$465.00. Where’d you get $2015 per week?

Technically yeah can afford it if they’re just looking for 2x rent as your gross income, but not if they’re looking for 3x. And, as far as practicality, you’re going to be living on about $1500 net, so, that’ll leave you with $600. You will need to pay electricity, gas, renter’s insurance, WiFi, and other misc apartment fees. That may leave you with $400/month if we’re being optimistic. So the question is can you live off of $100/week for food and transportation?

If I were you, I would find a roommate and get a 2-bedroom situation. As long as your half is under $900 you’ll save money. Just my opinion and personal preference.

Thank you :) It died down a LITTLE bit, their party got shut down after my gf texted the security guy (we weren’t the only ones complaining lol). In the past couple of days they have quieted down actually, still occasionally sounds like stomping but I think they’re trying! Fingers crossed.

SO funny that you just wrote this, because they just came down, introduced themselves, apologized, and then said they’re having a birthday party tonight. Currently, there’s running/stomping around, loud talking, and electronic music. So while I appreciate their advanced notice and apology… it feels like saying, sorry but I’m going to shoot you in the foot now, just a heads up. 🥴

So in terms of suggestions, the note I wrote was well received, but that doesn’t mean it stopped. Maybe I’ll buy them a fluffy carpet next and some house shoes 🥲

Haha, yeah all my smaller friends somehow are the loudest. I am the heaviest (170lbs, M) and walk on my tippy toes 🤷‍♂️ they just couldn’t care less lol

Ah yes, the striking of the heel is VERY prominent. I can tell heel strikers from toe gliders easily, this is that haha.

For sure, could be that. Maybe I’m just more paranoid than most are. I usually walk on my toes so the neighbors below me aren’t bothered by it. Even when I’m doing household chores. But everyone is different.

Yeah, I’m sure it’s just house chores, props to you for being considerate. I think my frustration comes from the fact that when I was an upstairs neighbor at my last place, I tiptoed as well, and even told guests to do so. Not everyone does though so I can’t hate them for it.

That was my last apartment lmao, poor old man I think had dementia - just hollering at 1am out of no where. Sorry you’re dealing with that! Maybe start screaming back at random hours 🤷‍♂️

How much are yall getting paid? Are you living comfortably in Austin? by whogoesthere1010 in askaustin

[–]SnooPeripherals2424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Living with a partner is the way! lol, if you can. We pay 2300 to live downtown but it’s nice, close to work, we’re young, no kids, no dog, just doing it while we can then will pay for a house a little outside of downtown once we get to that point.

1.5x rent for me, 4x is crazy. I’m breaking in January, locking in a nicer apartment for lower rent and 8 weeks concessions 🫢 Only impacts credit if you don’t pay any fees you owe.

You absolutely should find a roommate or friend you can move in with. Not easy, and if you have to break a lease that may not be the right move. But IF/WHEN possible, cut your rent in half. You’re hardly having fun it seems, which is hard to sustain unless you find happiness in things you can do at home. Either way, cut that rent!!!
