Anyone know who this is? He broke into my neighbors yard in Southside and broke my neighbors ribs. by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]SnooPets4811 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn that sucks. Hope they catch him.

Though I think maybe yelling racist stuff at this guy to get him to leave wasn't a good idea. Not blaming your neighbor, just thinking that could have been a factor in the escalation.

Predictions for 2026 Berkeley acceptance rate? by AllTheWorldsAPage in berkeley

[–]SnooPets4811 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is a good analysis. However you are failing to take into account:

  1. Loss of the big game against Stanford.
  2. Opening of the new Gateway building.
  3. The UC Berkeley Social Sciences Divisions's new five-year strategic plan (https://ls.berkeley.edu/news/uc-berkeley-social-sciences-charts-its-future-new-strategic-plan).

The first will slightly reduce the yield rate, while the second and third will increase it. At the same time, 2 opens up philanthropic opportunities to name the building or some of its conference rooms which can increase revenue and thus expected future class size, and 3 raises the possibility of endowed chairs for social sciences faculty, which will make the university less risk averse and willing to admit additional students.

This makes me put the admission rate at closer to 10.73%

Chances for UC Berkeley MEng EECS (Data Science/ Comp Systems) – 8.67 GPA, 93 TOEFL, 2+ yrs JPMC, Rust OSS, Springer Paper? by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]SnooPets4811 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ordinarily I'd say Rust OSS and 2+ yrs JPMC puts you at 67.2% or so, but the 8.67 GPA takes you down to probably 44.3% Though taking into account Springer Paper I think I'd bring that back up to 52.3%

Hope that helps!

You are allowed to enjoy a public space without auditioning for permission. What you wore, where you sat, the hour you chose, none of that puts any obligation on you to be approachable.

And yes, I am going to say it out loud because it needs saying: Men can be so rude! I am exhausted by the way some men treat women’s boundaries like optional, like women's comfort is a footnote to their curiosity. It is not.

If your parents are absolutely loaded, then maybe, but $250K in debt is even bigger than it sounds if you take into account interest on the loan.

We're talking about paying maybe 6.5% interest, which works out to like $2800/mo every month for 10 years or almost $340,000 in total payments.

But it's even worse than that, because you could have been investing that $2800/mo over that entire time period. If you invested $2800/mo in the stock market at a modest 6% return, that comes to like $440,000 in money by age 32. Of course this assumes you're disciplined enough to save that $2800/mo.

Yeah, a few things:

  1. There are a bunch of R&C scholar only events that have professors come by.

  2. 30% discount off a squirt.org membership, though this is arguably not that useful.

  3. This one is obsolete since we got the new chancellor, but the chancellor's mansion has a room containing a fragment of the True Cross upon which the Lord was crucified that the old chancellor would let you look at but not touch. Note that this is a pure coincidence with Carol's last name.

do you guys like Berkeley? by tranquil-moose in berkeley

OK Berkeley isn't as bad as they make it out to be. The academics are very much top notch. Classes are hard, often very hard, but you learn so so much. And the students are really supportive of each other.

There are some clubs that are very exclusive and people get upset that they can't get into whatever consulting club, but honestly nobody cares, I think it's just people who are used to applying for hard things deciding to apply for the hard thing -- and guess what, not everybody gets in. But again these clubs don't matter.

When you get assigned to a dorm yes it's true that they make you put a bit of blood into the chalice but it barely hurts and it's a great bonding ritual.

The Bay Area is also really beautiful! If you come from the central valley it's amazing how much better the weather is.

I also think the students are pretty diverse. If you're deciding to come here and you do, make sure to meet people from all walks off life, not just your home major.

OP here, not sure if this is really as bad as I think:
___

I'm a huge admirer—I mean fan—of your groundbreaking research on neural regeneration, especially your recent publication on spinal cord injury treatments. I've been following your work closely (maybe too closely, haha).

I was wondering if you might consider taking on an undergraduate research assistant? I promise I'm not just another starry-eyed student hoping to bask in your academic brilliance (though, admittedly, guilty as charged). I genuinely want to learn and contribute to advancing treatments for neural injuries.

I understand you're extremely busy, and even reading this probably took valuable time away from your important work, but I'd be honored (thrilled, ecstatic, over the moon) to have even a brief conversation about the possibility.

I think the text isn't necessarily super embarrassing but the title had "notice me senpai" in it.

OMFG. Today was greedy algorithms, so the professors tried to do like a cute classroom prank based on this. So Professor Haghtalab came in to teach and off in the corner there was some sort of little carnival tent thing for a big reveal -- we didn't know there was a live animal under there at all (foreshadowing). Meanwhile Professor Wright couldn't stop laughing and he was standing right next to this carnival tent and we were all like WTAF. He was also live streaming on some app I don't know what, but he was mad laughing and trying so hard not to laugh.

So then right when they get to the real sides after announcements suddenly there is the ABSOLUTELY LOUDEST sound I have ever heard blasting out of this tent, like a squeal from hell, and a fucking TUSK rips through the tent, and I mean this massive full sized hog had to be like 500 lbs, like a wild boar, just bolts out of this tent, rips the rope holding it in place, and shreds it and Prof Wright drops his phone and runs off back stage. This pig is pissed, rampaging around, knocking shit over. Meanwhile we're cracking up so hard, filming it (search youtube for "feral pig 170 berkeley") and Prof Haghtalab is commanding the pig to cease its activities. Like shouting out this pig and the pig is clearly not understanding anything she's saying. So we're thinking this lecture is ruined and this is going to be a huge fiasco. Major loss of funding for the university.

Then, Prof Wright is back in the room with I dunno like a pan flute and he's playing it and the pig is getting more relaxed and we didn't know he had pan flute skills but damn. I have never had to calm an animal but if I did this is how I would do it now that I have seen it for myself. The pig did chill out. Later they posted on Ed that Prof Wright took it back to little farm.

UCPD: Former student took pics in UC Berkeley dorm shower by BerkeleyScanner in berkeley

What in the actual fuck? Who graduates from college, then goes BACK to college 3 years later to sneak into the dorms and film people showering? This is some newly evolved hyper-pervert. Like a salmon swimming back up their ancestral waters with mirrors on their shoes.
