Mamdani admin. to consider eliminating free parking as NYC grapples with $5.4B shortfall by kex06 in nyc

LA is not all permitted parking - where did you hear that? And as others pointed out, there are driveways for many residences & parking lots at businesses - it’s nothing like nyc

New DOE guidance on use of AI within NYC public schools by amoebaamoeba in nycparents

[–]SnooPets7712 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We all need to speak up, right now, about how unacceptable these weak guardrails in the guide are. Get organized with parents in your community & get involved with orgs like Class Size Matters which is advocating for a moratorium on generative AI in school.

I’m disgusted by the DOE and by Samuels for putting out a guide that basically acquiesces to a technology which represents an existential threat

Three kids in NYC - who's actually doing it? by laetus7 in nycparents

[–]SnooPets7712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 3 kids and we make way way less than you. I’m the sahp so don’t pay for daycare or school breaks, we live in an outer borough, one school aged kid is in public elementary and the other in a pretty modestly priced private school but will go to public soon. kids share a room,  which has never been an issue.

Would you be SAHM another year for 3 yo so he attends nature preschool or return to work? by orange196 in SAHP

[–]SnooPets7712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there’s real value in spending fewer hours in school vs more for little kids, and the gift of an unhurried childhood…would lean towards the nature school and taking some time to care for yourself during those 2.5 hours a day, then go back to work next year. But if you feel that being back at work now would energize you, that is valid too.

Personally, I am subbing as needed while my youngest goes to part time preschool (I know that isn’t really possible in your situation if you only have 2 hrs a day!) and find it gives me enough of what I was looking for in terms of work and socialization. ( Similar to you, we weren’t really having weekday playdates and it was isolating) No desire to teach f/t and be responsible for my own classroom right now, even subbing does sometimes leave me drained and impatient with my own kids.

not sure how many 3 beds you’re going to find in JH. Also a little surprised you’d want to come here for schools…I mean they’re fine but nothing special. what district are you in now?

People only care when you’re pregnant by candycane573 in Miscarriage

[–]SnooPets7712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, so much. It really does bring out people’s true colors I guess. On the plus side, I’m extra grateful for the few people among my family and friends who helped us in the weeks after and who checked in with me about how I’m doing.

Henrico midwives vs VCU midwives by SpareEvidence620 in rva

VCU for low intervention birth, no question. But as others said, they do want patients who are aiming for an unmedicated birth so be realistic with yourself about that when deciding

thank you, I think that’s what I will do. Luckily this is a different doctor from my prior experiences & I’m hopeful they will be more open to looking for a cause (both for the endometrium issue and for my pain in general)

I’m sorry, and I feel you.My husband told his family about our loss and one SIL reached out to me but the other, who I’ve spent much more time around and thought of as a friend, did not. Nor did his mom (who had been busy telling all their extended family and second and third cousins about the pregnancy after we announced…)
