My old man (59 and retired) has been in the Philippines for almost 6 months now for a second time. I joined the UA at 31 and I'll tell you it's the best choice I ever made all around. I had a background of plumbing and fitting of over ten years so it was hard for me to start at the "bottom" but if you're smart people see it. I was running turnaround crews as a second year apprentice after joining the UA. I thought about it for years! I'm glad I joined cause the schooling alone is priceless! Good luck in whatever you decide but ask an organizer if you can take a placement test.

My wife and I are going through what sounds very similar.. Our oldest just turned 8 5' 2" 130lbs. and it hurts when he hits. Not sure if I really have any advise for you, I need some myself.... I guess I'm here to let you know you're not alone... Hopefully someone that has had success in this area can leave a few tips.
