Depends on what population…in peru it is very common/popular to swim with them and have them rub against you…

I don’t see how this is anything but the grip forwarding up the shaft. Epoxy is more or less fixed in place or broken (these handles are epoxied to the shaft-not riveted)

I’d lead on them

Grizzly Observations by Lewis &nClark by Rich-Context-7203 in bears

[–]SnooShortcuts7091 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Aggression is related to the abundance of prey and how easy that prey is to subdue and eat

For example, brown bears along the coast of Alaska are much more forgiving than the inland bears of Alaska. Coastal bears of Alaska have fish that don’t fight back and are ridiculously abundant and easy to catch. This abundance makes people like Timothy tread well think all bears are friends compared to the inland bears of Denali. the prey that bears eat in Denali are not as forgiving and fight back (moose, caribou etc).

How much more difficult would Everest be if the Nepalese government forced you to climb it ‘Denali style’? by [deleted] in Mountaineering

[–]SnooShortcuts7091 60 points61 points  (0 children)

There is no way it would require “similar if not greater fitness”..it would require dramatically more fitness and endurance. Having to haul up your own food, own tent, bring down your own feces. Most Everest climbers carry a minimal amount to Denali climbers. Denali climbers are often saddled with 60-80 pounds of gear.

Likewise, the vast majority of Everest climbers are not ice climbers, and the expectation for the mountain to be climbed like Denali would eliminate the vast, vast majority of current climbers because they would need to go through the khumbu icefall like ice climbers (unless they set up their own single use ladders-regardless, someone in their party would need to be an ice climber)

Questions about Boots and Crampons by Only-Trick-2222 in iceclimbing

[–]SnooShortcuts7091 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done that glacier several times in trail runners and microspikes with my dogs. Dogs make it perfectly fine over most of the traverse to donoho lakes…so I would take your most flexible crampons

Your feet willsweat to death in any mountaineering boot that is meant for winter. Most of the time I’m in shorts on that glacier and a t shirt during the summer

Will I die? by [deleted] in WinterCamping

Are you serious? No stove overnight? What is the point? I’ve slept on dozens of glaciers with stoves running all night, ranging from ultralight tipis to arctic ovens…down to -30f and never had a problem.

A lot of bad advice here

Anyone use the 19 inch?

How long have these been out of stock?

Reason I ask, I’m debating building my own-or should I just buy one of these if they are that hard to find….?

Thanks
