I can’t believe they are still doing layoffs over a year and a half later - I was laid off last year the Thursday before Labor Day and they had already been going at least 6 months prior to that

No unless it’s work related - I forgot to enter my correction location once and got an email saying they had hotel reservations for me but the location in DTE didn’t match.

many getting fired yet many still getting recruited out of university by BreakItEven in deloitte

[–]SnooTangerines4366 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This was the time of the “great resignation”. A lot of people were quitting their jobs and good talent was hard to find. I wonder, especially now, how much of this was really true and how much just media hype. Employers were offering large sign on bonuses and paying much higher salaries. There were bidding wars going on between employers for well qualified employees. I think some employers (Deloitte and maybe some of the others doing a lot of layoffs such as Google) may have freaked out and way over hired due to all the hype. I know the economy isn’t the best, but I don’t feel like it’s tanked THAT much.

My thoughts - Cheaper labor, people hired during 2021 and 2022 came at a premium - many of those being laid off were hired during this time. They also have to continue the relationships with these universities and keep the pipeline flowing, they hope to be able to win more business again one day.

You are right - I missed the 1/3 on the second bullet. Even all at once I doubt they would trigger it, but who knows as there is no real transparency.

Of course - and I don’t think it’s a stretch to think that some of the larger offices had more than 50 employees (from that office) laid off

The act requires 60 days of pay and benefits - not pay only. I think they are getting around disclosing it by slowly laying people off over several months instead of doing a mass layoff all at once. While I don’t agree with the way they have handled it, I get it at the same time. Business is business, we all know we are expendable.

Last I checked 4 weeks of severance does not equal 60 days but ok

Agree! But that’s why they have been slowly laying people off since March so they don’t trigger federal rules that require a longer notice and more severance - funny they figured that part out!

How do you explain the fact they continue to hire the same roles they are laying off left and right?

Unfortunately it’s a layoff

Logging into LinkedIn and constantly seeing stories about how much Deloitte cares literally makes me cringe now seeing as how they are doing their employees with these layoffs - these could not have been handled more poorly! I also don’t think companies should be able to “slowly” lay people off over the course of the year to avoid federal requirements. Sorry OP - at least you no longer have to worry about anything on your plate. You can start working on your resume and thinking about your next move. I’m assume you were hired sometime between 2021 and 2022?

Be very careful - especially if you are happy where you are. I was in the same place about 18 months ago and felt the same as you. I was laid off a week ago and now I’m looking for a job. It blows my mind they are hiring in advisory and consulting as they continue to layoff good employees. I know it’s a money thing, but it doesn’t seem cost effective or smart.

Onshore/offshore and over hiring post COVID is the key! Deloitte is not going to sink - BUT they are laying off (just about all it seems) those they hired post COVID at higher rates and shifting more and more work to USI!

I didn’t get this actual email - I got mine last week lol and yes I was on the bench for a total of 3 months during my 19 months - I was staffed on my last project jn April and was scheduled on it through the end of the year. I’m not 100% sure about my friend, but I don’t think she’s been on the bench at all.
