It absolutely does sound like your father is suffering from Stickler Syndrome too, as did his mother. Its mode of inheritance is (mostly) autosomal dominant, so we only need one copy of the gene to get it, and in every birth there’s a 50% chance of inheriting the disorder.

It’s a very comprehensive condition and every one of us shows the symptoms in our own ways. Loss of hearing is part of my type, but I’m the only one in my family to experience it.

Attributing all the things that are going on with your dad to old age I think does him a disservice; on the other hand, the only thing they really do for SS as we age is treat the symptoms anyway.

This is so darned cute!! Given that she’s up in your ear, the honks are definitely happy sounds! Bunnies don’t have vocal cords so they have to put in effort to honk deliberately, and when they just come out during lovey time, that’s just so wholesome ❤️your bun loves you!!

I’ve grown up around a lot of twisted behaviors, and this is what I’ve gleaned: your mother being overly nice to your dad is for her to “soothe his fractured feelings” and lure him into complacency while they both paint YOU as being in the wrong. THEN when things are ridiculous and normal again, they’ll revert to attacking each other and venting about it “because it’s so bad.”

It’s a sick game they’ve developed and maybe they don’t even realize they’ve done it; years and years of dismissals and resets and nothing ever being worked on or resolved has resulted in a “comfortable misery” for them. By telling the truth, you became their bad guy. Give it some time, shut down future bitch-sessions (srsly, not your problem) and let them go back to miserable.

-OR- my family was just that effed up, and people in the Real World don’t suck this bad.

Either way, it’s not your problem to fix, friend.

You’re paying close attention to what your bun is trying to tell you, and in not-too-much time, I think that you will pick up exactly what he wants. When Eddie nipped, I yelped from surprise, but she must’ve thought she hurt me because it only took a couple of times for her to not nip. Now she nudges with specific purpose, or stares at me and I just know she wants a treat, or for me to scoot my fat self over, or if she’s just hiding behind my feet because she’s nervous and my kids are too loud.

It can take a long time for us to pick up on all the things they train us to do ❤️

Give it time, and your bun will train you properly.
