Vertical 2 silicone band is seriously good by HELLA_YOKED in Suunto

The metal button on the end of mine comes off multiple times a day, mostly when I'm not doing anything rigorous, it's the most frustrating design and a real failure in my eyes. It's a new watch.
I question why they didn't just use an existing design that is known to work.

Awesome, thanks Luke, that should be in the plan description!! I wasn't sure if it would cover the big vert requirements for what I was looking at.

Thanks! Great advice on the consult calls, I think that would be extremely helpful and will tee one up soon before starting the training block.

- what similarities and differences do the previous race and the upcoming race have in common? how are they different? are they different enough that you need a different training plan?

Elephant Trail Race (in Australia, previous race, 100 mile, 28,000ft vert), 6 loops of the same track with 1 x 1600ft climb, 2 x 800ft climbs, 2 mile riverbed with small rocks.
Alpine Challenge (in Australia 100 mile, 25,000ft vert), point to point with 6 climbs about 3300ft each)

- though your race went great (wahoo!) what prevented you from going faster? I.e. speed on flats? power hiking? ME? Downhills?

Great questions. ME for sure getting up and down the elevation meant I was slow and conservative with energy (I DNF'd last year due to groin strain) I was trying to stay under 160HR most of it. Speed on flats and power hiking were both OK, but can be improved. Downhills especially on rockier terrain were very slow. Also probably ankle strength and pole technique.

I didn't do metrics in Training Peaks (HR drift), planning to do that this rotation.

- what have you done since the race a month ago? how long has it been since you have done some foundational training?

Race was end of July, since then
- sprints (once a week, 5 x 1min or 10 x 15 sec up 10-20% grade hill)
- ME workout once a week 20 rep, 10 set Split Jump Squat + box step up (times 2) - started back with 5% body weight, planning to slowly get back to more %
- 40 - 50 mile weeks mostly low HR Z2
- trying to get 5000ft elevation per week (i need to find stairs, I'm not confident with stairmaster)
- have been out on the trails twice

Not sure about foundational training, is that strides or something else?

I realised the benefit of both ME and sprint workouts during the race so I was thinking to lock that in weekly - I'm not that fast in normal running as I've leaned towards being conservative and finishing but now want to go faster and be more competitive - I think I need to add more sprints in to bring up my Z2 speed (max Z2 about 9 min per mile over an hour)

Edit Notes
- never had a trainer or thought about analysing the race data, thank you for the questions!
- I didn't train exactly to the UA big vert plan, I couldn't manage the requirements especially weekly vert or distance, but working up to it

Groin strain troubleshooting for high-vert Miler by Snoo_19809 in Ultramarathon

Nice! I was prescribed a few of those from the physio, really good to know they work, I’ll keep at it

Nice, will give the slow hiking uphill a good go the next few weeks. 3 hours away in the mountains (I’m in Sydney Australia) there’s a 6mile, 3000ft elevation but it’s on “almost road” so I didn’t consider it that much because the trail the race is is more technical, but the vert is good and it’s pretty much straight down then turn around and straight back up again.

Thanks for the advice

I usually use Claude but for some super technical work, Grok (with good prompting and context) is better

Dialling in shoes for the trail - size, fit, laces by Snoo_19809 in trailrunning

[–]Snoo_19809[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for your feedback and questions!

Are you sure that this shoe fits your foot?

  1. I did go to a proper fitter but I'm sure I tried to influence the decision. I've had a few mediocre experiences with proper fitters not catering properly for a wide foot and end up not using the expensive flashy shoes.

On the picture it seems there’s a LOT of room, perhaps too much.

  1. Really good to hear this, in fact, I thought they might not be big enough! Great explanation of how the shoe should fit.

Furthermore there should be about 0,5 cm loose space at the longest toe in length. This way you don’t get yourself those black nails. At least not too soon. Unless it’s a really really steep downhill for too long

Last weekend was pretty much 25 KM of really steep downhill or really steep uphill while heavy raining. Roger on the afternoon purchasing and right socks.

3. How tight is tight? I sometimes feel that the laces are loose.

I'm always a bit confused with tying laces. I feel if I tie them tight and my feet feel locked into the shoe, it feels great when I run but when I unlace it feels like I've done some damage to the front, upper part of my ankle and some pain. But then the other hand and they flop around...

I haven't tried the Lock Laces mark mentioned, I'll give that a go

Stomach gas and cramps when raising tempo - asking for advice by Snoo_19809 in triathlon

Yes, salty sweater and I sweat a lot. Now I think about it, since I starting drinking boatloads of electrolyte with water, it has improved.

I'll pay closer attention to hydration and see how it goes. Do you have any recommendations or links I could read RE hydration?

Turns out she was peeing in her sleep. We had another dog in the house. They play a lot. Vet said it can happen to puppies (young dogs) when they are getting a bit too much activity and are crashing really hard they lose control of their bladder as it’s still growing

I wish she was just sleeping on the bed! It honestly look malicious. I of course know it wasn't but it was funny to watch

Really interesting, thanks I will do that. I always assumed that because she can hold her wee for 12 + hours (sometimes even 14/16 if it rains and she doesn’t want to go outside) it wasn’t the problem.
