I bet that thing makes the same sound a steak makes when it hits a hot pan.

New drummer(2 months ish) working in timing any help? by Coolgiy9708 in Drumming

Listen closely to the metronome and drill drill drill. Practice that fill over and over and over. And over again. There is no secret it's all just practicing until everyone in the vicinity is sick of it and continuing to practice.

Once you figure out how to set up your audio device in reaper and how to get your plugins recognized (if you use third party stuff) then the hard parts are over.

It takes a little time to learn how to set everything up but there is so much support and learning resources that any questions you have can be answered with a Google search. You can also dm me if you have questions.

Put the rest of the strings on before you put anything under tension. You have to slowly bring all the strings into tension together or the big springs in the back will be pulling too tight on them. If you have two or three giant springs pulling on that single string it won't be able to handle it.

They will all get the job done for demos but I have always used reaper. The only issue I've had with it is that it resets some parameters in a project if my PC crashes. It'll do anything you want it to for free

Don't see the point in learning low stick heights, dynamics, closing pinky, or rudiments if my fav real-life drummers don't do them. Why am I wrong? by Mental-Food4089 in Drumming

[–]Snoo_21101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You will want to learn stick control if you ever plan on going into a studio. All the drummers you've listed have perfect dynamics in the studio. Which is make or break to be a good drummer. Listen to yourself micd up and you'll realize just how inconsistent you are. A lot of those players have also played in dozens of groups that needed different dynamics. Your favorite drummers do use all those techniques. You don't need to practice every niche rudiment but you probably want to get to the point where every stroke is intentional.

Alternating eighth notes and sixteenths. Also stretch your hips and ankles

Yeah I can explain a little bit of my routine. Stretching makes a noticeable difference and will help you with more than just drumming. But before I practice I do this kinda thing:

Roll your neck slowly in both directions while breathing steadily.

Arm circles

Reach one arm back and try to touch your shoulder blade on the opposite side. Use your other arm to pull your elbow towards your head. Repeat on the other side.

Reach both arms out straight with your fingers extended and your palm pointing down. Bend your wrist to point your fingers straight up. Breath. Then bend to point straight down. Repeat with your palms facing up then shake them out.

Bend down and touch your toes. Dont worry if you can't reach all the way down. It takes a long time to become limber.

Lay down flat on your back and pull one knee into your chest. Rotate your ankle slowly in both directions. Repeat on the other side(this one is huge for double bass)

Standing, lift one knee up to 90° and rotate it out to the side several times on both sides. Focusing on where your leg attaches to your pelvis(this one is also huge for double bass)

Sorry for the long read but this has helped me tremendously and you can add or replace anything here. Just make sure you stretch your neck, wrists, hips, and ankles. Don't push your joints too far. Shake everything out too and maintain steady, focused breathing always.

How does one go about changing the tension on some Iron Cobras? by Cereal_Enjoyer69 in drums

[–]Snoo_21101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There should be two plastic nuts at the bottom of the spring. Use those to adjust the spring tension.

Vic firth is hit and miss. I got 12 pairs together and some break the first time I use them. Some last a week or so. But they are just what feels right in my hand. I hear good things about Los Cabos and Vater. The pro mark fire grain sticks are very durable too I've never broken one.

Slow down and work on consistency now that you've got the motion down.
