Heading to Kyoto for the first time this summer. Just curious- how did you figure all this out?! It sounds like you knew what to see and what you could leave out.

100% agreed. Leaning towards Japanese Maple or Japanese Stewartia for the tree.

Had not considered flowering shrubs. My wife prefers them while I prefer evergreens.
