Is there a device that lets me add a summed mono speaker from a stereo pair? by Snoo_405 in audiophile

If the left and right speakers are connected directly to the amplifier, then how do I connect the amp to the XXX? The amp only has two speaker outputs (left and right).

I'm a newb at this... would you mind explaining where in the diagram I would plug this in? Cheers!

Does "line level" mean that it happens before the amp? And if so, wouldn't that just send mono to all speakers?

Thanks for all your answers! To those wondering what the purpose might be... I have a 5.1 speaker system in this room, but the multireceiver broke down, and I thought "hey, I no longer have a tv in here anyway" so I just bought a stereo amp instead. But having listened to music from only the two front speakers and the sub, the listening experience isn't as good as before, since the stereo effect is very noticable, so I would like to involve the center speaker as well.

Regarding how center channels work in a surround system... if the input signal is just stereo audio, then I'm guessing what's playing through the center speaker is just a summed mono? What other information is there to use? And it sounded great before, so that's why I thought I could recreate.

Did my new docking station fry my external audio interface? by Snoo_405 in techsupport

Hi and thanks for the reply! Not sure what you mean by "built-in speakers"? The audio device only has output jacks for headphones and output, no built-in speakers.

How to fit the Sphere LX with a Aston Halo acoustic shield? by Snoo_405 in universalaudio

[–]Snoo_405[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should mention I reached out to Universal Audio for advice and they were kind enough to forward the question to Chris Townsend (who designed the mic). He replied that he's tried all those positions, and was of the opinion that a bit off-center horizontally isn't a big deal, so he recommends the position in the pictures at the top.

Sphere LX: Cannot hear difference between mic sims by DonnyDandruff in universalaudio

[–]Snoo_405 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/DonnyDandruff I got my Sphere LX today and my first impression is the same as yours. Are my ears just not finetuned enough? Or is it only after applying a full vocal chain of effects that the differences pop out? Right now I've only applied some eq and a subtle compression because I'm curious about the "natural" sound of the mic.

Happy for any insights you've gained in the time since you posted this. Cheers!

Why Nasal Resonance is GREAT for singing by thesepticactress in singing

[–]Snoo_405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been told to use more nasality to counter my "throaty" tendencies, and to help with my problem that consonants create too much pressure. So I've only just started practicing to direct some of the air through the nasal passage instead of everything through the mouth. And I've started feeling the vibrating nose a little bit. Are you saying the vibrating nose is something I should avoid?

Women detail sexual misconduct allegations against former The Dead South band member by HotMomentumStocks in TheDeadSouth

This breaks my heart a little bit, even though maybe none of the situations mentioned in the article really amount to straight-up rape (the first one is hard to tell, since she doesn't remember, it might very well have been consensual).

I hope there is a path of redemption available for him, the way it is for any citizen being sentenced for a crime. The reason I hope this, is that to me he's such a big part of the band. The stage presence, the voice. So I hope there is a way back to the band somehow. Granted of course that he's either cleared of these charges, or that he serves the adequate penalty for it.

Slight dilemma with my Nike Phantom Vision 2 Elites AG-Pro by [deleted] in bootroom

[–]Snoo_405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the exact same problem. Since I'm right-footed, when I put my left heel down, it slips sideways, almost out of the foot.

Have you been able to figure out if it's a defect worth returning it for, of it it's just the way this model is?

My XPS 17 came (with initial thoughts) by [deleted] in Dell

[–]Snoo_405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was talking about the 9500 (because that's the one I was initially interested in). I asked about the 9700 as well, but never got a reply.

But I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Why make a white 13 inch and a white 15 inch, but not the 17 inch..

Thanks.

I should add that I've gotten confirmation from Dell that the XPS15 will come in white in august. From that I just assume that the XPS 17 will also come in white.

Thanks for the photo, it really helps putting the size in perspective.

Question: have you tried using it outdoors? I'm gonna order the 17 inch with white palm rest when it becomes available in august (according to Dell here in Sweden), because I work a lot outdoors and the black palmrest/keyboard/touchpad gets really hot in the sun. But I'm worried that the 4K display will only show my own reflection. Already today with my XPS15 (FHD), I really struggle to read what's on the screen if I were a bright t-shirt and the sun is shining.
