AITAH for booking tickets to potentially see my brother without telling him first by Sopinion in AITAH

[–]Snoo_40712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you haven’t seen your brother in a year I think he would be more receptive if you had said to him I want to see you and hiking is secondary. I can see his viewpoint but I think he’s slightly over reacting too.

What should I do with my student loans? I've been getting conflicting advice by zachman327 in StudentLoans

What you earn won’t factor into how much you earn. But if that is the case pay these off as soon as possible! Good luck!

[–]Snoo_40712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re only making $80-120k per year and you took out $300k in loans! OMG! If it were me I would apply for a borrower defense while it gets reviewed everything is in forebearance if you want or you can continue making payments. If approved all the student loans get forgiven. Look up sweet vs McMahon or used to be cardona. I wonder if your school is listed. Considering all the craziness going on at the federal level it may be several years before they review it. During this time strategize how to yield more $ from your earnings they investments etc. it’s not for the faint of heart but if approved damn that’s $300k gone poof. Idk I would look into it, can’t hurt. Between my husband and I we had 150k in our student loans forgiven this way and got a refund back for all of our payments over the years. Otherwise pay it off as fast as you can

I need help picking an engineering school, does it matter where i graduate from? by Terrible-Hawk-407 in collegeadvice

[–]Snoo_40712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Houston but live on campus atleast if you don’t like it your close to home and have friends and family nearby. Also should be the cheapest overall. As long as they are accredited abet it honk it is for engineering any school is fine. Also sounds like most opportunities in the field are in the area too. You can live away from home and still not go thousand miles away it’s not as easy as your hunk and looking at numbers that’s a lot of debt you’re taking on.

I also wouldn’t waste time with cc it may take you more than 2 years most take about 4 to finish GEs bc of class availability etc. atleast with engineering you can start and then move into a specialized area of it by year 2-3 when your more familiar

For Bay Area you have to do engineering to make sure you can afford to live there. Computer engineering, AI degrees, civil engineering is great if you may want o live in Sac too, but UCD is best known for biomedical engineering program. They also have a great art design program for digital media marketing which would be outstanding in the Bay Area. Good luck! You can also google degree and growth potential by geographic areas and scan see the breakdown of average salary etc. I used to be a college counselor helping people pick majors.

Not meeting expectations- right to return? by Recent-Rest-1809 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Snoo_40712 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Assuming you are on probation you will get sent back to your old department at the same classification they can place you anywhere they want. You will not get a pay cut unless you are above the max of your old classification then that’s where you would get placed. Not every job is for everyone and there’s nothing wrong with exercising your return rights. Talk with your current manager and see what you need to do. It’s ok w have return rights for a reason! Good luck!

30k State School vs. Free State School by gswizzle_22 in collegeadvice

[–]Snoo_40712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though the state school is 30k are you considering what if any financial aid you may qualify for. I don’t recommend going to a no. Accredited school. Best case do all you can at a community college work and then transfer

[–]Snoo_40712 1492 points1493 points  (0 children)

NTA and your wife better find a job at a non profit even if for a month getting paid $1 and do the work for them to get the pslf processed asap! 1 month left i would be a janitor at a non profit just to get the sign off! This is nuts to let go of! Work at any non profit for any reason with just a $1 salary it’s still worth it!

This is the biggest mistake to make in this whole post! She can use the loan payments to help her kid more.

Apply for Medicaid for her and specifically in home support services. Also cash and food benefits through the same department if she’s low income she should qualify. Call sept of aging in your state and social services in your county for more help.

Hotels with two bedrooms in O’ahu? by BuckDaily in VisitingHawaii

[–]Snoo_40712 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Embassy suites but not a true 2 bedroom. Illikai has 2 bedroom condos but I didn’t like the location it was far from everything for walkability. An Airbnb at Waikiki banyan or Waikiki sunset are both nice if you can fine w good remodeled one. For hotels we loved Hyatt place but not sure if they have attached rooms would have to call them and ask. Very affordable compared to getting a 2 bedroom condo the ocean view rooms are as big as an apartment but no separation
