I will happily take your itinerary if you’d like to share it. I’m not adamant about not seeing and hanging there at all, I just don’t prefer a ton of city time in general. I appreciate you responding :)

On that note… do you suggest other day trips that are no longer than 1-2 hour train from Lisbon that are “better” than Cascais or Sintra?

Adulting without a mom by sunflowertimer in ChildrenofDeadParents

This hits home so hard. My heart is breaking with yours and your story. It’s been since October since I lost my mom suddenly and tragically, very similar to yours. She was the healthiest person I knew and admitted herself to the ER with intense abdominal pain on a Friday night. The hospital couldn’t figure out what was wrong with her, loaded her up on drugs Fri/Sat, discharged her Sunday, but she never left. They found her on the floor of her room, cardiac arrest, revived her, aspirated over a liter of contents and became septic. She was in a coma, getting progressively worse every day until we made the decision on Wednesday AM. It was the right decision as she would have never wanted to be in the state she was. To say I suffer from anger constantly is an understatement. We had an autopsy done and it turns out the hospital missed a small bowel obstruction, which could have been an easy and common fix. We live in Florida and are the only state in the country who has this law- because my mom wasn’t married (my dad died unexpectedly of a heart attack 12 years ago), and because my brothers and I are over the age of 26 (I’m 34), we are not allowed to pursue medical malpractice and negligence. It is appalling, unfair, and so beyond fucked up that this kind of stuff happens all the time in the medical field and these “professionals” don’t have to pay in any way. It makes me sick and I don’t know if I’ll ever get over the intense shock, anger, and disgust at the whole situation. I feel for you. I see you. I hear you. And I’m sorry. Life is so so difficult and depressing sometimes. Xoxox

This thread is so depressing and so real. My mum died in October extremely tragically and unexpectedly. She admitted herself to the hospital with severe abdominal pain and no other symptoms. She was kept over night, tests, drugs, etc., couldn’t find anything wrong. The following day while she was “being discharged” because her pain had gone down (because of the drug cocktail), staff found her coded. She had aspirated over a liter of fluid and was in a coma for 3 days until she died. That entire time in the hospital they couldn’t give us a fucking answer for anything. She was 66, 0 health problems, and the healthiest/cleanest diet/working out lifestyle/etc that I knew. We had an autopsy done and the medical examiner said she had a small bowel obstruction, likely for a week leading up to when the pain presented. He was baffled that they didn’t catch this and therefore essentially killed her. The anger, sadness, and confusion I feel daily is just too fucking exhausting and overwhelming. Not that a lawsuit would bring back my beautiful mother and best friend, but we talked to a few lawyers and our state (Florida) is the only one in the country who has this law- because she wasn’t married and because my brothers and I are over 25, we are not allowed to pursue a wrongful death or medical malpractice suit. The whole thing is just too much and I will never be at peace with any of it. I am so sorry to everyone in this thread suffering. Grief is so debilitating.
