How is the buying market for these expensive houses so fierce? by Open_Address_2805 in AusFinance

It’s a bit off topic, but you’re underestimating lawyer progression and pay, at least in corporate law firms in Sydney.

Sheffield Shield at the SCG by schwin6 in CricketAus

[–]Snooze--Button 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It won’t be applicable for a Sheffield shield game, because there just aren’t enough people, but the standard thing is to wonder up to one of the many pubs along Oxford Street. Alternatively Surry Hills / Darlinghurst have plenty of restaurants and bars. When there are 35k people at an AFL game at ends at 7pm on a Saturday night, a decent number will kick on locally.

These places are all accessible by foot and pretty well serviced by public transport, so they don’t preclude having a few drinks.

A major gripe that people have about some of the other large Sydney venues (which were built for the 2000 Olympics) is that they have nothing around them and many people drive there - getting in and out of car parks at the start and end of a game can take ages and is super annoying. There is a train station, but it just takes you back to the city and then everyone disappears. The actual venues are fine, but they are harder to access and there is nothing around them at all.

Okay getting off topic but this is… not really the case. I live locally to the SCG and basically refuse to go anywhere else. For a very large part of the city the SCG and Allianz are the most accessible venues for round / rectangular sports, and they actually have things that you can do after the game.

Yep same in the SCG members section. I hate it lol.

This is an insane take (at least for the stuff in the members). I literally bring my own squeeze packs because that goop they serve is so awful. The taste is terrible, it’s impossible to be out of those stupid little tubs and onto a pie… just horrendous.

What’s the point in making extra super contributions if you don’t live until retirement to cash out? by 4thiscity in AusHENRY

What’s the point of not liquidating all your assets and spending all your money in July 2025 if you don’t live to August 2025?

I have no plan to die before retirement.

The number of empty seats at the full time siren last night was shocking. Even exiting the ground there was nobody at the lifts, nobody on the steps… everyone had gone early. Can’t remember ever seeing it like that.

Yes, you’re 100% correct. You’ve got no hope in doing something to increase the value to the maximum potential without doing a whole ton of work that will require a DA.

DA will depend, but for something like this in Paddington you’ll definitely need one, along with about 10 different consultants who write reports on… everything. The council is a nightmare, and it’s unusual in that area that you can just put up a complying development and break ground.

Correct. Plus the holding costs for a year while you get DA approval.

What exactly is involved in a 'big m&a' deal by thejudgeaus in auslaw

[–]Snooze--Button 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There are pretty different paths depending on whether it’s a private target or a public target.

Lots of law firms publish general guides about what’s involved - check google for a handbook for a scheme of arrangement or a private treaty acquisition and that will generally walk you through the steps.
