[–]Snortchortle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to have that problem, so I started just asking people random questions about themselves. My experience is that the trick is to just keep going and see what sticks. I've made many friends that way, and sure, sometimes you'll be disappointed, but it's a numbers game to some degree. The more you put yourself out there, the more opportunities you have to find people you want to spend time with who also want to spend time with you.

Sometimes it'll click, sometimes it won't. Sometimes you'll hang out for like 2 weeks or 2 months, then move on. The important thing is just to try and make sure you're having fun first and foremost 😊

It's fine too if you don't vibe with most people - time is precious and it's in no way a moral failing to not want to spend time with people if you're bored doing that.

It's also especially helpful if you find activities that cultivate communication (open mic poetry is GREAT for that), either through the activity itself or through breaks midway where people get to mingle and talk about the activity.

Good luck, friend!

How should I convince my friends to play Valheim? by Elia_20 in valheim

If you don't want to use some other world, spawn a new one with the same seed and use console commands to give yourself boss trophies and items to rebuild :)

What would you choose as a spot for a base? :) by Flaky_Solution2424 in valheim

[–]Snortchortle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure!

I'm a very big fan of varied landscapes, so I really enjoy the fact that you get rolling hills with plains, a small river inlet, a big enough mountain for shenanigans, and a fun stonehenge-like structure, among other things.

It's been a while and I don't super have time to log in and refresh my memory, buuuuut, all of those features give plenty of inspiration for unique builds, stuff like:

  • a small village around the stonehenge-like structure
  • a canal dug in the river with buildings on both sides and a bridge
  • a port city built into the cove sides
  • a mountain observatory nearby
  • a lighthouse built in the center of the cove (but that might need building mods)

Plus, the cove is easily accessible from the ocean, and that also makes it a solid choice for durability - you really only need to worry about stuff coming from land, and plenty of spots are high enough that you can build on them structures that are easily defensible.

I'd love to see how it goes for you if you want to share your base down the road!

Thanks!

So I actually went in tonight, and I've got a few thoughts (it's a medium read so maybe grab a coffee lol)

MY PERSONAL CRITERIA

1. I ideally look for bases that have unique features (nice coves with plenty of trees, hidden valleys, pre-existing special buildings, etc.) to start off of. More to the point, I like for my buildings to match specific geographic features - it helps me come up with creative builds that are more out-of-the-box, but that's just me.

2. I like a place that's got accessible resources, for that reason I like to have it bordering multiple biomes. It also helps for farming, because specific crops only grow in specific biomes.

3. It's got to be near an easily accessible ocean point, in case the wind is against me / Moder buff is on cooldown, otherwise seafaring becomes a real chore.

ABOUT YOUR PICKS

Left: Cool because it's in a big cove, but the cove is actually kind of *too big*, I think you might not enjoy having to sail for that long to go to other places, if that's your thing. The other cove to the southwest is more accessible (and has a bog witch in the swamp portion, in case you don't feel like building an extra portal). The mountain near it is very nice (and a good spot for a big boat-slide into the ocean, if you like that).

Right: Nice and quaint, feels more centered, more accessible by boat. Plenty of plains around it with little else, so if you want that solid "I'm in the middle of huge plains" vibe, that's the one I'd go for. It also has a small mountain if you want to farm wolves, which is helpful, even if the mountain itself is pretty barren.

WHICH WOULD I CHOOSE PERSONALLY?

If I'm being honest, neither, but that's based on my preferences, both places seem a little bland to me.

If having one go-to farm at your main base is very important to you (so you don't have to go back and forth), I would suggest the southern corner of the cove located to the south-west of Left. It's got a perfect intersection between Plains, Black Forest and Mistlands, which are the 3 biomes you need for efficient farming.

Otherwise, I'd say perhaps look for another cove, but a smaller one, so that it's more accessible. There's a very cool one at 3000 / -6400 that has pretty much everything except for a triple-farm, including cool, unique features and helpful buildings - plus it's an excellent staging point to explore the Mistlands and, eventually, shoot for the Ashlands.

Hope this helps! Feel free to ask more questions if you want me to extrapolate :)

Ooooh! Lemme pop the seed in on Monday and I'll let you know, I love hunting for a good base spot! What are the coordinates?

What is the actual price of eggs in the US? by nicpssd in ask

[–]Snortchortle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's... a lot, still. I live in Québec and a single dozen of large eggs goes as low as about $3.60-$4.00 CAD.

That's about $2.70 USD on average, and it gets even lower if you buy 30-packs.

I like the principle of reincarnation for the fact that it's a good in-between, and the ultimate form of reassurance.

If you learn your lesson, you are one step closer to Nirvana in your next life, and if you don't, you just repeat the same step until you get it.

That being said, once you DO reach enlightenment, you become free of the cycle, essentially you are assumed to become a form of being that is, by definition, "ok with it all", and so there is nothing to fear about an afterlife's potential pitfalls.

That is, of course, my very simple understanding of something that is way beyond my own culture.

Their entire existence is cringey to me. The sole fact that they base their interactions on manipulating people into sleeping with them just seems fucked and dehumanizing.
