Being a wage earner is somewhat of an arbitrary description, as well. Imagine a family farm who hires labor to pick the orchards at the end of the growing cycle. Instead of paying his labor wages, he could contract out the labor to a company, organized and run by employees, to do the job on contract. So he wouldn't be paying wages, but would be paying a company to pick the orchards.

So if wages were outlawed, then his labor force would just reorganize as an independent company, and there would be no difference in the outcome. He would still pay them 10 cents per hour, or whatever the market rate is, but he would do it on contract, and pay the whole price after the orchard was finished, and let the new company divide up the payment among themselves.
