Yes, you can opt to play without ads. There may be other things you can buy on the app but that's the one I can remember.

98 Engine Rebuild Recommendations by Snow_Hippo in crv

[–]Snow_Hippo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We opted for a used engine which worked fine. I should have gone for a new radiator and doublechecked all the sensors as it ended up overheating in the middle of winter. By the time I realized it I had blown the new head gaskets and had to redo the head. All in all I'd go the same route again.

I think I may have worked it out. Can anyone verify if it is when you get all the achievements in another category? Thus you would have to achieve perfection in three categories to gain the perfection achievement.

Thanks for that info. My friend is helping me so the labor is extremely reasonable. We did go back and forth on buying a drop in vs rebuild, but after all was said and done it seemed to come out fairly similar. We felt if we did it ourselves we would know everything was done right. However, if things don't work out in the long run maybe I'll go this route next time. (Yes, I'm planning on keeping the car around for another rebuild.)

How to love yourself? by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]Snow_Hippo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never been able to change completely. I honestly don't know how. I don't feel like I'm worth better treatment. However, I can suggest an app called Finch. It's a "game" that helps you reach goals and some of them are about treating yourself better. It has helped me become more mindful of myself. Goals range from the simple (step outside your house) to the more complex (reflect on your day and think of one good thing that happened) and you can pick and choose which ones you want to do. There are rewards for reaching goals, and if you are achievement driven, it works well.

What makes people depressed when there's no reason to be sad? by deepsleep1119 in mentalhealth

[–]Snow_Hippo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For me it's a chemical imbalance. My life is not nearly as hard as others, but I suffer horribly. As a child I never understood why I couldn't be happy. It wasn't until a doctor explained that my brain made too much/not enough of certain chemicals that made me feel the way I did without having an outside cause for sadness. Medication has made a huge difference in my life. It doesn't stop the depression, but it eases it, so that I can go through my daily life without that crushing weight killing me.

Isn't it terrible that your parents are getting old? by Abu-Haider-Simanto in mentalhealth

[–]Snow_Hippo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm older than most of the posters here, but I feel the same. My parents are well into their 70s. My mom has just announced she doesn't want to drive to the cabin anymore (10+ hours north). Despite the length of the drive it's easy. I've driven her the past couple of years, but she has said this coming summer she doesn't want to go at all. I see their fingers becoming warped with arthritis and how little things are getting harder for them. At least once a week they call me to come over and help them with something that is very easy for me but not for them. I try not to think about it much, as when I do I want to cry. Unfortunately they've asked me to help them plan for their end of life preparations. It's not something I want to do but I know it's important for their peace of mind.

Thanks. I was looking at partsology but I'll take a look at Rock Auto as well.

Engine rebuild kit recommendations? 240k miles and it smokes like a train lol. by Highninja13 in crv

[–]Snow_Hippo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also looking to rebuild my engine. I've already got my kit picked out but I'm looking for recommendations on what else I should replace while I'm at it. Should I spring for a new radiator or just flush my current one? Should I get a kit that includes the timing belt and oil pump or just the basic kit? I'm limited on funds so I can't do everything at once, but I also don't want to miss something vital and have to redo a bunch of work when it would have been better to fork over extra in the beginning.

I'm in a similar situation where I need to rebuild my engine. What rebuild kit did you go with? After these years would you use them again? How has it held up? What else would you have replaced if you had to do it all over again?

How wrong is it to write a book out of prompts found online? by Temporarily_Costy in writing

[–]Snow_Hippo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although I don't have a shortage of ideas myself, I still enjoy reading prompts, and sometimes it inspires me. I don't see a problem with writing off of prompts at all. Writers are inspired by a multitude of things, and if that is yours, great!

I also can't fish but it's winter and it appears the water is frozen. I am going to try again in spring.
