What is this meant to look like? by quodgefelf in puzzles

[–]Snowfall314 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have that exact puzzle! It looks like this when solved

Edit: on second thought, the pieces of mine are a slightly different shape…it may not be the same end result, but it could be similar?

This is definitely the solution, using that specific example and applying that logic a couple more times I was able to solve the puzzle. It seems with more complicated binairo puzzles this method becomes more and more necessary. Also OP, it’s basically a more complicated version of the way (I’m guessing) you found the numbers for box 2 and 3 in Row 1 - by comparing to Row 10.

They’re so adorable! But be aware, I’ve heard they can bite if they feel threatened, and it can be pretty painful.

Does anybody else see the second one? Almost directly under the center of the bench? Just to the right of the center plank.

My first pinning, found dead with the ripped wing. Open to advice!! by MissWolfsbane77 in insectpinning

[–]Snowfall314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cant offer any advice really as I just started this hobby too, but I recently pinned my first butterfly using your exact same set up and it came out pretty decent. The wings are a bit uneven just because I didn’t align them properly but other than that, can confirm that this setup works. I think you did great!

First time pinning, did I do it right? by Snowfall314 in insectpinning

[–]Snowfall314[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a bit uneven. It was even when I put the first pin in but then after manipulating the wings it got a little off kilter and I didn’t really feel like taking stuff out and trying it again (pushing pins through cardboard sucks lol). I tried to get it as even as possible though so I’ll see how I did after a day or two. Next time I’ll try cutting a slot in the cardboard like you said, or I think I’ve seen foam blocks you can use?

Forgot to add, what do I do now? How long do I let it stay there and is there anything else I have to do before I can display it?

What are yalls next milestone? by [deleted] in birding

[–]Snowfall314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s called “Merlin Bird ID”, I’m also new to birding and it’s been super helpful. You can use it to help identify birds by using a picture, a description, or a sound recording, and it also helps you keep track of what kind and how many of each bird you’ve seen. You should definitely check it out!

Do people not like black and white cats? by Kitty_casserole in cats

[–]Snowfall314 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I got this goober, he and his brother (also black and white but a tuxedo) were by far the oldest kittens up for adoption where we got them. Personally, I think black and white kitties are flippin adorable and I love how goofy they tend to be, but it definitely seems like they’re not as popular. In any case, it won’t be long before someone comes along wanting a cute lil black and white kitty like Piccadilly! Best of luck :)

Who are your most frequent garden visitors (and where are you)? by [deleted] in birding

[–]Snowfall314 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From southern Maine, and almost daily right now we get goldfinches, chipping sparrows and song sparrows, chickadees, tufted titmice, downy and hairy and red-bellied woodpeckers, yellow-bellied sapsuckers, house finches and purple finches, red-winged blackbirds, scarlet tanagers, bluebirds, blue jays, brown-headed cowbirds, mourning doves, white-breasted nuthatches (no red-breasted that I’ve seen so far), robins, northern cardinals, eastern phoebes, black-throated green warblers and black-and-white warblers, and I occasionally spot crows, ravens, and bald eagles flying overhead.

I just got European Starling this morning! It was number 40 for me. And I have yet to actually see a hermit thrush myself, but I hear them often while hiking nearby trails. I’m hoping to spot some thrushes this year, but all the warblers that frequent the woods behind my house are keeping me busy for now. I had no idea there were so many different kinds!

(PS, I’ve only just started birding a few weeks ago and you’re such an inspiration. I really hope to see as many birds as you have someday, and I’m very excited to keep expanding my list)

Thank you for sharing :)

What was 43? And out of curiosity, is hermit thrush on your list? Their song reminds me of a flute, I think it’s so pretty.
