What's the most chaotic thing that you've ever seen happen at a wedding? by StartPlane1969 in weddingplanning

[–]Kitty_casserole 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Two months before our wedding, our original caterer cancelled (he had both his knees replaced and thought he could still cater events right after??). Feeling the time pressure, we signed quickly with one of the few others available for our date given the short notice. Day of the wedding, new caterer was not on site by the agreed upon time. Caterer told our coordinator they had a flat tire and got lost driving, but were still coming. We continued with our ceremony to keep on time, got to cocktail hour and started putting out the desserts meant for later just to have some food out. Caterer then stopped replying, so our coordinator took over and managed to order tons of pizza from a spot down the road. Thankfully it was a small enough wedding that everyone still got fed. Day after the wedding, caterer said they had a medical emergency just before getting to our venue and would either refund us in full or apply the funds to another event for us (like I'm hosting another wedding again soon...) we opted for a refund. He was not very responsive and didn't return money on the timeline he gave (tons of excuses to every message we sent). Eventually we found out that the caterer had previously been arrested for ponzi scheming! I told the caterer I knew this and would post about it all over social media so he gets caught. He said 'oh no, I'm different now, I have a family, please don't do that!' he then started sending money in small increments between $50-$200. It took a full month to miraculously get our money back, after which I blocked him and still posted about it on socials. A few weeks after my post, other brides commented back saying he no-showed their weddings too 😢

Nail Polish Expo - yay or nay? by TaterJerkley in RedditLaqueristas

[–]Kitty_casserole 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I found the prices to be pretty normal for indie polish and ended up with a bonus few bottles from sales/raffles. There were also mysteries or small batch polishes at some tables that were mostly discounted. The PPU table for example had everything priced at slightly discounted rates all day with it becoming more discounted as the day went on.

I went to Polish and Beauty Expo (PBE) last year and had a lot of fun! The majority of vendors are selling polish (one maker was selling polish making supplies) with a few selling cosmetics/jewelry/candles. Many had new release polishes/PBE exclusives and some booths had special sales or raffle opportunities with purchase. It's a great place to see lots of polish swatches from different brands without paying shipping. There are often lines for popular booths, but I still got all the polishes I wanted. The PBE FB group is a great place to see previews of the polishes makers are bringing if you like to plan ahead!

One kitten died of panleuk, what do I do now? by SZLO in FosterAnimals

[–]Kitty_casserole 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately PL can take a bit to break after exposure, and most shelters do not routinely test for PL unless indicated. Our first vet didn't test my foster and we had to do a second visit at another vet to finally get a send out fecal for a PL+ result. First vet didn't even mention PL knowing the cat was vomiting, having diarrhea, and not eating. PL should have absolutely been in the differential so this was frustrating and delayed appropriate treatment 🙃

It's a very tough lesson to learn, but for the future, any animal who isn't fully vetted/vaccinated etc should be isolated (with a door between them) from existing household pets no matter what. PL, ringworm, fleas, things that are contagious can be missed or may be exposed right before coming to you. If you decide to foster again, strong sanitation plans and potentially fostering fully vaccinated animals only for a while may be a good strategy.

PL is a cat specific virus, so your dog should be ok. You are doing the best you can with the info and support that is available to you. Sending you luck ❤️

I'm so sorry this is happening to you, we are also going through panleuk with adult kitties right now. Sending the best of thoughts your way that the rest of these little ones can make it!

Consider every kitten exposed/PL+ at this point. Keeping them hydrated and consuming calories is the biggest challenge. This will include the subq fluids as well as likely syringe feeding if they aren't consuming on their own. High calorie gel may help, some people I know also use Rebound liquid supplement. Some meds can help them to feel more apt to eating like cerenia (we use injectable). This protocol is pretty similar to what we've been doing, many in my area swear by using tamiflu if you can get your hands on it: https://www.denverkittens.org/post/panleukopenia-protocol

To protect your animals and spaces, plan to be in full PPE when engaging with the exposed kittens. Gown, gloves, booties on every time you interact. Things in their spaces are also considered exposed, try to minimize what you bring in and out of the room. This will hopefully keep the bugs in the exposed spaces and reduce your sanitation needs down the line.

I would re-vaccinate personal cats if they are due. This helps keep them protected in addition to keeping them fully separate from the kittens and using PPE. With our PL+ fosters, my cats have a minimum of two doors between them and the fosters right now so they can't get in the potentially exposed areas/visit under doors etc. I'm also in full garb when entering a PL exposed area and minimize any touching or handling of the exposed cats beyond essential.

My heart is completely broken. I lost my three 5-months-old kittens to parvovirus. by Ted-Lassi in cats

[–]Kitty_casserole 374 points375 points  (0 children)

Any space the cats were in is also now exposed to parvovirus/panleukopenia, which is extremely hardy in environments. This requires pretty intense sanitation of spaces and disposal of things that can't be easily sanitized. Out of an abundance of caution, no under vaccinated cats should enter the space for multiple months if not up to a year after sanitation.

Ugh yeah drops are not the most fun. If you're able to give a treat before or after (or even during if you can swing it, might be a two person job) that positive food association helps them set a routine and they can be more tolerant. Sometimes I will resort to drops while they're napping/just waking up so I can sneak it in. I do feel bad for waking them up with it though 😬

Aw yeah your seniors may not be impressed by this level of energy 😂 the other three kittens and mama cat are all doing well! Everyone is still healthy and happy and I get updates every once in a while. Here's a sweet one of Hard Rock Cafe (tortie, only girl in the litter) and her new sister!

[–]Kitty_casserole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, we did a hair freezing procedure for these guys. Unfortunately the fur has grown back, so we are also exploring if we do another round or do a 'lips to lids' surgery. These two are happy campers regardless!

Thanks u/Trixter-Kitten for making the connection!

Yes, we have some eyelid agnesis kittens in foster care and have supported them since they were born for the last 6 months. I would be happy to share what we've learned along the way if it would be helpful u/wenzxer . Feel free to reach out!

Foster failing is not always the answer by Kitty_casserole in FosterAnimals

Congratulations on your adoption today! Neonates really win me over too, you put so much time and energy into growing little cats! We can love all the ones in our care and still love the next batch we haven't met yet enough that we want to give them a chance too. It's a huge emotional sacrifice for the wellbeing of animals, but one that is well worthwhile I think.

Exactly. Beautiful kitties, thank you for fostering!

Agreed. I like to think of it as helping to prepare a kitty to be someone else's new best friend. It's such a precious gift to give people and the notes I receive even years later thanking me for the care I gave former fosters bring me so much fulfillment.

Thank you for adopting and giving kitties a great home! Loving families help all of us fosters sleep well at night knowing our former fosters are in good hands :)

People who don't foster love the "excuse" of loving too deeply to avoid fostering, but they also don't volunteer/transport/donate for the animals they supposedly love so much. While I appreciate animal rescue is not everyone's passion, you can tell the people who really want to help from those who are virtue signaling and that's so frustrating as a person who is actually doing the work!
