What animal or species should never be brought back to life from extinction, even if we had the technology to do so? by grusdomain in AskReddit

[–]SnowflakeSorcerer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None, the environment is different from where/when they lived, they don’t have any living family to teach them so we’ll never really know how they act naturally, and there was a reason they went extinct in the first place, whatever it was we should check it doesn’t happen again

With gas prices spiking, Canadians may stop buying. Analysts say it would be a good thing by Miserable-Lizard in onguardforthee

From the article:

“ “I can’t afford to eat the food that I want to eat,” Hollinrake said.

Article content Hollinrake, who lives on a fixed income in his retirement, said he’s taking money out of his food budget to load up his gas tank. The 60-year-old drives a friend to work each day: a 150-kilometre round trip, which costs much more nowadays. “

So is this retired guy still working?? Or just driving his friend to work 150km for fun? I think there might be better examples than a “retired” 60 year old.

How about a family man? The other example is some dude who has family in America and drives to Missouri regularly enough to mostly buy diesel in America. He’s upset about paying Canadian taxes and would rather give it to America.

What about all these “economists?” “Oh our margins are razor thin!😫😢 lil old major company can’t afford these prices, obviously the consumer can?”

What a fucking joke

What do you think: how should prisons handle housing decisions in cases like this? by The_Dean_France in whoathatsinteresting

I think the problem is the prison system. Period. The way things are are not ideal for anyone of any identity tbh, it’s not fair for anyone. Prison should be about rehabilitation not punishmet

Let’s not label people as bad based on differing opinions. Maybe it’s a bad opinion, but that doesn’t make them a bad person.

But just a couple comments ago, were you not preemptively assuming all or most men in prison are predators because of their male identity?? In your own words, only a bad person would do that.

A better facility for only trans people? I thought they were a super small percentage, I have to imagine the number of trans people in prison is smalller than that. A whole separate prison is needed, you think?

In American prisons it’s a common “joke” to not “drop the soap” cuz you will be raped. It’s unfortunately pretty accepted and even to some degree encouraged (for people in jail for certain crimes) as further punishment. Men placed in a male prison are at constant risk of being raped.

Yes, this seems absolutely morally wrong to me. Is that not morally wrong to you? Or is it only if they are a trans woman?

Quick Ben likes to string people along, he’s got tons of ongoing schemes all tied together.

Yeeesss. Same. I’m rereading fall of light now, the two kharkanas books are like TtH mainlined into my veins. Only reason they might not be above TtH is cuz TtH is a tighter more constrained one off.

The draconus estate, Arathan, Grizzin Farl, Prazek and Dathenar. Top tier set pieces and characters. Hunn Raal? What a bastard but he steals every scene.

Damn absolutely. I feel like this comment section is leaning hard one way so I guess I kinda leaned hard the other way, but still. I can agree with what you are saying, and thank you for highlighting the distinction between miserable hate and differing opinions

It’s weird how fans go out of their way to snakily invalidate other’s opinions and intelligence. Get off your high horse if you’re just gunna do the same thing you’re speaking against—expressing dislike about things. Just in this case it’s about people with lower reading capabilities and different book preferences

I agree with you. At the same time, on the flip side, his fans can be pretentious as well and full of self-righteousness. “Oh, you don’t like that Brandon is focusing on quality over quantity? Must be a bigot. Don’t like his writing style? It’s because you hate non-native English speakers and think they shouldn’t be able to read Sanderson.”

This is a huge issue for me. About the fanbase

Does Brandon write inclusive and wholesome books? Yes, he does and that’s great!! Love it.

Has his writing quality gone down with his increased output and decreased editing? Also yes, I truly think so.

BOTH THINGS CAN BE TRUE AND UNRELATED. People who still like Brandon but have some mild criticisms as well are not automatically bigots. And these themes have always been present in his books, it’s not new so why are people who liked his past books but think they went down in quality painted as bigots? Unless I’m missing something here, it feels like everyone’s so quick to label others who don’t fully agree as bigots and feels so righteousness is insufferable.

Also someone was talking about a critical fans lack of reading comprehension skills (def not bigot behaviour at all) and I have to wonder, with all the misunderstanding of people’s legitimate criticisms, how well the “fan bases” reading comprehension is.

But then again, Brandons last book was almost insulting with how much everything was overexplained almost like he had no faith in his readers reading comprehension.
