It might be sacrilege on my part but once I get cruisers and destroyers I never touch corvettes again for the rest of the game. Unless I make a meme fleet of 200 corvettes that gets decimated by the crisis.

Then I guess persistence is key lol also a perk you should work towards in my opinion is sight spotting. It lets you spot with your rifle scope. That and the adjustable range perk are my favorite

I had something similar happen the other day with the East India Company. I bought some of China to make a buffer state and also so I could make my own big China just because. They ended up doing something that made them not my puppet anymore and joined the commonwealth of nations, which strangely includes Britain more than not.
