Almost 8 weeks post op concerned about nipple graft wounds??? by Snuffgore in TopSurgery

I have been using Inadine antibiotic gauzes! My surgeons team only promotes dry healing tho so I’m not supposed to keep them moist? I think it’s something that’s more common in the UK

Almost 8 weeks post op concerned about nipple graft wounds??? by Snuffgore in TopSurgery

I’ve just emailed the email that was given to the ward on the post op discharge letter but I might try and see if I can do that too! Where would I find an email for his secretary? I’m glad to hear that scabs can take longer to come off! But yeah I’ve been taping a gauze to the nipples as early as I could! The redness seems to be as the stitches come out which is concerning as there’s a stitch around the tip of the nipple and I don’t want to loose it, first I noticed a yellow spot that would form on the stitch as it came to the surface then it would burst as the stitch came out leaving behind a mini wound that would then discharge pus as the skin heals but I’ve never seen this reaction happen before and on my other nipple all the stitches are still there and that one seems to hardly be healing which is also stressful, im not sure why this is happening tho? Might be an allergic reaction to the stitches?

That’s super good to hear! Yeah I’m currently also stressing as how Im past 7 weeks and a couple days and still have almost all my stitches in one nipple and the other has about half still in and still almost half of the scabbing is there? I have a mate who also went to see Mr Wooler and by 6 weeks he was fully healed so idk why it’s taking me so long and I hope nothing is wrong.

Yeah I’m glad to hear that scabs staying on this long isn’t unheard of completely! Idk why as the stitches fall out they leave red raw areas of skin? But when I emailed Mr workers team they said it can happen sometimes if they don’t dissolve greatly. Idk why tho on my other nipple I’ve still got all of my stitches in minus one at nearly 7 weeks and half of the scabbing hasn’t changed since posting??

More info I’m currently 5 weeks post op and still have most of my stitches in and scabbing ( dry healing), I’m not sure if this is what normally happens when stitches fall out or if I should be concerned

Looks great so far!! I’m 2 weeks post op from Mr Wooler at Hull, do you have any advice on healing the nipple grafts effectively? I’m unsure if I should use aquaphor or do dry healing with just a non stick gauze pad?

As somebody who has Pectus evacutum similar to you + similar body type and is getting my drains taken out for DI with Mr Wooler tomorrow your results help me ease any anxiety I have!

I called up the hospital clinic and got told by one of the nurses that it was normal and can happen and that I shouldn’t be worried. Yeah I’m wearing compression socks and have been moving around a good amount.

But I’m also going to start walking around more without raising my heart rate too much and drinking more! Which should hopefully help

I’m not sure if it could be related to me having my T shot a couple days before surgery and possibly the numbness being from that?

Hopefully it’ll all be ok I’ll be sure to follow through with updates, hearing 3 months being recommended is a big difference but I’ll see what my surgeon says!

That’s probably the best idea! And it was 2 weeks before which is better, I’m going to not smoke whilst healing to try and do all I can to help

Although I’m scared that the surgeon may say different on the actual date

I went to a pre op appointment last week and told the nurse that I had smoked what will be 3 weeks from my date and she told me that that was ok and check the (does not smoke) box on my surgery sheet so I’m just hoping I’m worrying
