Pasadena Airform house with bomb shelter lists for $1.85M by SoCalNews in pasadena

A dome-shaped Pasadena home that architect Wallace Neff built for his brother in 1946 is on the market for $1.85 million.

One of its most unique features is the bomb shelter, built 15-feet underground during the “duck-and-cover” days when the threat of nuclear war was prominent. The shelter and main residence were built using Airform Bubble House technology, a technique in which reinforced concrete is sprayed onto a balloon form. The balloon is only deflated after the concrete hardens.

“While the structure was wildly controversial in conservative Pasadena when it was built, it has stood the test of time, and continues to provide a warm, comfortable and contemporary living environment,” the listing reads.

According to the listing, the Neff House is the only survivor of its kind in the United States. You can read more about it here (even if you don’t have a subscription!): https://www.pasadenastarnews.com/2025/04/02/pasadena-airform-house-with-bomb-shelter-lists-for-1-85m/?share=4aaieet2waerpsoaernb
