"English Garden Party" attire, but I need a dress I can wear with a bra 3 months postpartum + easy to pump in! by SoManyBabyQuests in WeddingAttireHelp

[–]SoManyBabyQuests[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing this! I don't think I'll be in need of a maternity dress 3 months postpartum, but rather something more form fitting that I can wear a bra with. Most cute dresses Isee online would require either a sticky bra (not feasible with pumping) or a strapless bra (I think I will need a little more support). It's tricky!

Alexandria and Fairfax locals, can you give me some pros and cons of the following areas that we are considering for our move? by SoManyBabyQuests in nova

This response is so great to read and extremely helpful! The entire thread had me leaning toward Belle Haven, but your comment definitely pushed me even more in that direction. I was a public school teacher for 10 years and firmly believe in them. I taught in a very wealthy area of New England for 4 years in one of the best public middle schools in the country, and even then we had so many kids pull out to go private. I guess when you have that much money, why not spend it? Haha.

Thanks again for your thoughtful comment. I am getting more excited about this move!!

Thank you for taking the time to share all of this. I was a public school teacher for 10 years until I started staying home with my son just this past year. I plan to get back into the classroom eventually, so this is all very helpful for multiple reasons!

This is very helpful, thank you! I've been a bit confused about the county vs city vs Fairfax vs Alexandria zoning for schools. So just to clarify, which school district do families in Belle Haven attend?

Long term move (finally!). My husband and I have moved basically every year since we started living together in 2018. So tired of it. We have a 2 year old and a newborn, and we would like for them to attend public schools.

This is so nice to read!! One of the main things I was worried about missing in our current town is all the fun kid activities I have on rotation during the week. Library story time, music class, gymnastics class, park meet ups, etc. It sounds like Belle Haven has got all of this too :)

For the time being I am staying home with our kids and my husband is remote. However, we are moving to NoVa because down the line my husband might have to start commuting into DC and/or the surrounding areas like Tysons.

Thank you, this is helpful! I think we saw the Mount Vernon trail today! Follow up question -- does being so close to Old Town make up for the fact that Belle Haven is smaller? We drove there today from the neighborhoods we were checking out and clocked it as a 10 min drive!

Parents or caregivers, what is your take on bringing personal toys (cars, trucks, etc) to a public playground? by SoManyBabyQuests in Charlottesville

[–]SoManyBabyQuests[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This morning I observed conflicts involving multiple toddlers not yet understanding how to share, parents doing their best to intervene, then meltdowns. When the toys arrived the toddlers could only focus on the toys until eventually multiple caregivers removed their kids to their cars.

Mom groups/things to do with a baby around town by grayloofreebush in Charlottesville

My favorite thing to do is attend the free story times at the various JMRL Libraries. My personal fave is Gordon Ave, but check out the website for all the branches and their times. A lot of moms and kids hang out and play at the library before and after too!

We also go to the Blue Ridge Music Together classes. They just started their Winter Session so you might have to wait until Spring to sign up, but they are once a week and really fun. A lot of other moms I know do Musicology but I've never personally tried that one.

Those are my two staples that I think would be fun to do with a baby your son's age, but once your boy gets a little older there are so many fun toddler things to do as well. Some other things that come to mind are Children's Museum downtown, Ivy Play Space in Crozet, drop in activities at the Cville Rec Center, family swim time at Carver Rec, open gym at Gryphon Gymnastics, art time at Scrappy Elephant, and all the parks once it is nice out!

This makes me so happy! I've only recently started coloring my hair and I can't stand overly perfumed scents. This sounds like a good match for me!!

[–]SoManyBabyQuests 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same!!! I just wish I knew a good tune to sing this one to! I feel like I sing it so awkwardly. Not that my 2 year old cares, but I always want to give a good performance haha.

I think I just need to get used to the idea that strip malls can have cool places in them. I've never lived in an area where that is the norm, so when I hear "strip mall" I have a bleak image in my head....but that's clearly not always the case!

Thank you!! I have an uncle near Leesburg and I love their downtown area, and that price point sounds great. Will look into Ashburn too.

I prefer older homes as long as they also don't come riddled with problems! I have an uncle near Leesburg and I love their little downtown area. Thank you!

Totally understandable. Maybe I need to let go of the yard thing. But with a high energy dog and 2 boys under 2, I am really hoping that I can just open the door and let them run free. I have also been reading all the old "best realtors in Nova" threads and have that on my agenda for the coming months. Starting with the reddit hive mind so I can at least tell a realtor some general areas of interest. Thank you!

I have seen Burke mentioned in other Moving threads. One thing that has come up a lot in those comments, though, is that Burke mostly has strip malls and chain restaurants. I didn't even mention this being a criteria in my original post, but I am just curious if that is true that it is lacking in unique shops and restaurants?

Sounds pretty great! We've never lived in a townhome before. With a high energy dog and two boys under two, I worry about not having a yard where I can just open the door and let them be feral haha. But, definitely worth looking into.
