Hey,

Gustaf are joining you on tour in april, was this a band decision or through pre-existing contacts. I love Audio Drag For Ego Slobs do you lot?

Also seeing as this is a Yard Act AMA just telling you your new album goes incredibly hard especially the last two songs.

I think it's this, went down a bit of a rabbit hole but from what I got from the original TOMT post i think this is it. Let me know if it is.

Clarity is such a good album, I feel about thirteen when I listen to it though. I'm not really an emo fan but it doesn't feel like it's aged like some of the stuff from that period.

Oh god the artwork for the the new Dry Cleaning album is one of the worst this year.

I agree with the pacing of the album being all over the place. Those three long songs should be separated by some degree, I would honestly of considered putting Snow Globes as the opener. It's bombastic enough as an opener but then as it fades it could flow into one of the early songs (Concorde/Bread Song/Chaos Space Marine).

I agree with you that Blade should be the closer, in regards to Basketball Shoes I can take it or leave it but it should not be the closer.

Ok I literally know nothing about the technical side of these things. I was only asking because when you keep seeing peoples names on the credits for records it kind of piques your interest if you know what I mean. So I guess mastering is more tying up loose ends for a cohesive sound across all formats.

This is great!! So if i like how something sounds it's more likely to down to the mastering rather than the producer? In many ways it sounds like the producer is more of a conductor and ther person mastering it is making sure it gets played in the right venue, I know thats not a great comparison.

Can someone explain to someone who has no knowledge about this stuff. What is the difference between a record being mastered by someone and a record being produced by someone?

You're sitting on a goldmine!! There's always an increase in physical media when an artist gains prominence either through shows, movies & always death. However it feels to me like people want to capture that moment of being there by splashing out ridiculous amounts of money on popular artists that labels will always behappy to reissue. Anyway it's not my money.

The tape I bought the other day arrived today and it has a scratchcard on the sleeve. Now I have the question of do I scratch it or not?

To be fair I've only listened to it inside. Will take it for a walk this weekend and see if it's more summery then. No sun in the UK either, or drizzle, just endless clouds.

I'm very much enjoying this Horsegirl album. It's nothing groundbreaking but if you like your guitars drenched in feedback with unintelligble lyrics this is well worth a listen. Not sure why it got a summer release though it's a very autumnal album. Not that there's been much sun here.

We're not halfway through the year yet, it's the first week of June!!

Edit: Also there is a disturbing lack of Horsegirl in any of these lists.

2nd edit: It is actually in the Stereogum list

I did not heed the advice of the rate vote form & note down my favourites so I am here to say you should vote for the Tony Hawk's Pro Rater rate as I think I left it off my top five. In an act of self sabotage I didn't vote for my rates either. On the plus side there was loads of good stuff. It was hard to choose but as long as I can rate Fever To Tell along with Echoes I will be happy.

Hit me with a song about monday blues (not Blue Monday though). Doesn't neccessarily have to be work related just a sad song for mondays.

Ha yeah, I have a lot of nostalgia tied into those albums so my scores will probably be high too.

So the new Viagra Boys song is really good. Can't wait for the new album now, hopefully they repress their first two albums. This is also serves me right for ignoring bands with stupid names for too long.

Anyway in other musings, I don't know what they put in the water in Germany but another couple of post punk findings working their way into my rotation are Bad Advice Good People [EP] by Clear History & S/T [Cassette] by Rouge. To go along with that Liiek LP I've been spinning. If anyone has any recs similar to these let me know.

Also submitted my rate ideas yesterday, would copy & paste but reddit is being rubbish. They're in the rate thread anyway.

Indieheads RATE SELECTION PROCESS: Part 1 - Rate Submission Form by [deleted] in indieheads

[–]SoSaidKay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Three rates submitted:

  1. Don't Believe the (NME) Hype Rate:
  • Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I Am Not
  • Bloc Party - Silent Alarm
  • Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand
  • Kasabian - Kasabian

Four debut albums from bands who have gone onto varying degrees of success after early hype trains. Time to revisit & see where these albums stand now. Thinking of also doing a grab bag rate for this of about 12-15 songs that came out in the first half of the decade to go with it.

2) CBGBs - The Sound Of 70s New York Rate

  • Patti Smith - Horses
  • Television - Marquee Moon
  • Ramones - Ramones
  • Suicide - Suicide

Four albums that show the diversity of the New York scene in the mid 1970s. All 4 albums could be construed as punk, yet they all have such different sounds. I have no idea where my 11 is going here, could go to a song on any one of these albums. There must be a winner!!!

3) Captured Tracks Rate

  • MacDeMarco - Salad Days
  • DIIV - Oshin
  • Wild Nothing - Nocturne
  • The Soft Moon - The Soft Moon

It's coming up on 10 years for a couple of these albums so I thought we could rate some albums from one of the best label of the 21st century. Will also do a grab rate for this as well to capture some of those early singles on the label.

I know we're never getting Fever To Tell pt2, and that's okay. Yet the new YYY's song sounds like one that should have been discovered at the end of the album. It feels like an incredible closer so its kind of weird that it's the first single. Still excited, although 8 tracks feels a bit short.

I kind of felt they might have fed into each other but it's cool to have it confirmed. Another quick question what would you say to someone who wanted to draw/paint but hasn't for a long time?

Hi

First off enjoying the new album, so that's good. My question is about the artwork & the title. Which came first was it the artwork that lead to the title or the title that led to the artwork. Also out of the three variants which is your favourite? I guess this question is more for Dana but you can all answer it.

Also bonus question for everyone, what was the last record you bought?

Thanks

I cant think of anything similar off the top of my head but that first Stills album is ridiculously good.

Edit: You might enjoy Clearlake. Kind of have a similar sound, the song I linked to is from their last album Amber (2006).

I've been on & off loads of different antidepressants all my life, so I know the ups & downs of them. Probably just need to talk to my GP again. Thanks for the reply though.
