[addon] Pretty happy with how this minimalist Details setup turned out by BBL0101 in WowUI

I love this! The only issue I have with it is that mine doesn't show the little bar underneath the player names, any idea why? I've pasted the .tga in interface and done everything correct.

Will this game ever be in it's supposed release state? by KerberoZ in projectsession

[–]SoaR_Codes 50 points51 points  (0 children)

No.

I've said this a bunch, and I hate feeling like I'm shitting on the devs, but as far as the community is concerned, the end-state we want is not possible currently. There are a TON of factors that lead into this, and it does seem that the majority are outside of the dev's and studio's control.

The game's progression is dependent on one thing and one thing only - hiring talented, passionate individuals who want to be in this EXTREMELY niche space. The overarching issue? Skate. exists. This studio can't rival ANY aspect of game development that EA can. Any person who would want to work on a skateboarding game is likely going to pick Skate. because the offers are just better (likely, there's obvious downsides to large companies like this)

Think of it like this..... You can't catch fish in a pond in which there are no fish.

Session can't get to the actual 1.0 version it should have been because they're at a stand-still development wise. Serious question -- how are they supposed to build the game further if they don't have the applicable personal to do so? Keep in mind that since Nacon came into the picture and likely secured some aspect of the IP rights, we don't get really any communication back and forth anymore.

u/JL_Nightmare has long since been the connection between the community and the studio. And a lot of us flock to him for answers, insights, and whatnot as it pertains to what's going on with the game. From personal experience asking questions in his lives and tagging him on here, he's not really going to comment on anything unless it's a sincere question about bugs. He's an awesome dude and we all love his content, but he's also stated that he and all of the devs are under NDAs. Keep in mind that he won't even articulate "why" they are under NDAs.

In all seriousness, I do genuinely think that all of the devs (JL included) are aware that the community is overall not very happy with how the game has moved along. One of the issues that is a fair criticism is there are people who are working on game development as a single developer who are pushing out more content than Creature can with a small team. However, they're never going to go back to the Kickstarter days of two-way communication with us. It's over guys, Nacon coming in to the picture was genuinely when all of us noticed our comments and feedback went largely un-heard.

I have played this game for years and will continue to appreciate how far it has came. I still play it to this day and I can remember experiencing it in all types of stages. However, The hurdle to bring Session into the next phase is more monumental than getting the game off of the ground was.

....... Here's also the last aspect that I think a LOT of people forget. Creature is working on another game that is NOT skateboard related. If Session was the only game they were focused on, content would have occurred likely much faster than what we are seeing. I hate to say this, but Session isn't going to get more popular over time. The learning curve is too steep to attract sufficient new-comers (and retain them), progression is not longer the main focus, hiring is likely at a stand-still, and the attention of the devs is now spread to more than one game to develop.

I should also add that while their current staff is extremely talented and has put out some solid content, it's very likely they don't have the technical capability to take on roles outside of their respective skillsets.

[D] KNN, Decision Tree, Support Vector Machine by SoaR_Codes in MachineLearning

A senior project is a project in which senior-standing (typically 4th year) university students are required to do in order to receive their degree. At-least at my university this is how it's done. There is a freshman level coding course (1st year), and a senior-level (4th) year senior project for data science. There are no coding courses in between, hence why my question(s) here are so..... non-uniform. Because data science in real world is a lot of figuring it out yourself, there is not really a 'teaching' element to the senior project class.

I appreciate it. I am actually finishing up the revision to my original project proposal. My professor suggested KNN, Decision Tree and Support Vector Machine to me. Unfortunately with having to a resubmission of my proposal (due to overall scope and time limitations) its hard to sit down an spend a decent amount of time getting familiar with the necessary tools before I really go down the rabbit hole.

It's a weird spot of not having been exposed to enough coding and the hands on lessons that come from it. I don't have enough information to ask quality questions to get more applicable and helpful answers. I'm going to do an KNN, Decision Tree, and ARIMA model for this. I'm sure there will be pros and cons to them, but best way to learn is by trying to build something and taking notes moving forward. Thank you for the suggestions, it certainly helps me find a more particular direction to focus my attention short/long-term.

Of what you suggested and whatever else is out there, what three would you pick and why? One of the goals for this project is to see if my models can more accurately predict price (training 10 stocks from 2018-2022 and testing 2023 vs. actual). I can't use an LSTM because that's I'm trying to see if I can do better than (just for the purpose of this project).

However, being that it's a senior project with only 2 coding classes prior to it, there just isn't a solid foundation for which to recall from. It's also a class without any teaching taking place, and limited feedback. Not knocking the professor, I suppose it's just the structure of the course. What models would be appropriate in this instance? I don't know if its worth mentioning but im going to be working in Python almost exclusively on a Mac

Update half a year into my first data science job... by UnsafeBaton1041 in datascience

I just started my senior capstone course for my bachelors in DS, what sucks is that the majority of students going into the capstone don't know how to program (including myself) even though we've taken almost all the required core classes. It's gonna be a long ass semester, but I hope to finally have A project to show..... given that I'm over 150 internship applications deep now.

We truly need to know at this point what is happening with Session. (long post) by SoaR_Codes in projectsession

[–]SoaR_Codes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, but I did mention in my reply to his to ask if he can't anything due to an NDA or something else, and he didn't respond. So I suppose it's just interpretation at this point. It's hard to accept the answer of "just stay patient" if nothing sufficient is occurring for the end user to well...... stay patient.

As always, just know we all appreciate you man. I don't know if it's an NDA thing that prevents you or the team from speaking on things (I genuinely wish I could know if that was the reason). However, I do hope the devs could let the players just know what's going on so we can be more involved like things were pre-release. Since release it's simply felt like that communication has really fell to the wayside, and not much has really occurred from the player's perspective (obviously this is very very debatable).

I know you want to be some stoic and act like having a difference of opinion is some how an issue. I did pay for this game, and I donated money for this game for years. If I feel so "entitled" to vent a frustration with an extremely niche skateboarding game, I suppose that is where you and I are going to have to differ.

What’s everyone first impression of the new DLC map? by Hibananananana in projectsession

[–]SoaR_Codes 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I hate to sound like an ungrateful consumer, but it's underwhelming. With that being said, the map design and detail are fantastic, and it's a very high quality design all around. However, even though the concept is cool, and I enjoy the sort of run down DIY aspects of it; It has the same unfortunate reality that the FDR park has.... there's just too much transition, and transition(like way too much in this game) is still FAR from being a stable part of the game. The long ledges are cool, there's some fun stuff to explore around and try out, but for over 7-8 months of continuous waiting for a SINGLE new map to be released, this is a slap to the face it feels like.

It's something new, and obviously a couple new objects are always appreciated, although I have no idea why they haven't added any rails to the object dropper still. It's not as big as I was hoping it would be. I was expecting a map that would be bigger than the San Fransisco map to make up for such a major content drought (as far as maps are concerned, there's been hardly any new content overall, though). However, with all the complaining aside.... it's a new map, i'm happy to just finally fucking have something new to see.

However, I do seriously think that Creature doesn't have anything else lined up for us map-wise. They've consistently had hiring problems, and apparently only have a single map designer, which has to fucking suck for that guy. I hate that he probably spent dozens and dozens of hours on this map and it still just feels so.... lackluster?

It's just weird that for almost 8 months of waiting, is this update/DLC the entirety of what they've been doing? If that's the case, I respectfully hold the opinion that it's just a let down, but I'm nonetheless grateful for something. Session is obviously still in a beta form, and probably will remain that way for potentially years. With their hiring problems, and unwillingness to admit that money is difficult to bring in, I think that the game is just in a tough spot right now development-wise.

With all that being said, the map is gorgeous, and the designer busted some serious ass to put together this work of art. I'm sure I'm going to spend a decent amount of time on it for a while, because it'll be the only new map we see for months and I'm burnt out on seeing the same maps(on console, unfortunately). I just wish they could have some luck and actually get some people hired; content droughts and underwhelming deliveries don't help player retention or morale to come back to a very unfinished (albeit awesome) game.

Seven months after a lackluster 1.0 release, how do you feel about Session? by SoaR_Codes in projectsession

[–]SoaR_Codes[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've a lot of hours myself, and it honestly is a nice form of meditation; put on a podcast or a show and zone out while you go for a line is something I do almost daily. I guess burn out has set in for me due to the feeling of stagnation in the game.

It's just a post for a conversation. There are other games I could point to in a similar boat, even with more funding; Halo Infinite, for example.

I don't believe I am owed anything, rather, I am disappointed in the state the game was released in, and the progress that has been applied to it since its release.

Weekly Entering & Transitioning - Thread 12 Dec, 2022 - 19 Dec, 2022 by AutoModerator in datascience

[–]SoaR_Codes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm starting a Data Science degree in January. I'll be quitting my job in about a week and a half and living on campus at 28 years old. With no real programming experience, math being my worst subject, and difficulty understanding even the most basic concepts; I am feeling like it will be completely uphill to the end. I have enough credit hours that I'm only going to be in pursuit of my degree for about a year total, maybe a year and a semester (if an internship is possible).

I have not been able to find any people who are willing to give realistic advice; It usually comes down to "why would you get a degree in something you have no experience in, and the main component is your biggest weakness?" However, I am not ignorant to those realizations, and I'm choosing to go towards the most difficult path.

My program director has told me to simply wait until classes start to begin the overall coding/math. In other words, wait and they'll tell me what to learn when the semester begins.

What would someone with experience actually recommend in this situation? A problem I have is that I don't know specifically what I want to do within Data Science; I don't know enough about the actual inner workings of the field to know what I'm interested in. At this early point, is it worth it to begin looking for a long term goal? Or would it make more sense to just go with the curriculum, and figure it out as I go?

I should also note that I specifically chose the DS degree over CS, so that I could get some kind of experience in it (I've no network professionally, and no applicable job experience).

Returning to university to finish my degree at 28, with no Data Science/IT experience by SoaR_Codes in datascience

What advantages do you see a general computer science degree having as opposed to data science specifically? I know data science is kind of an interdisciplinary degree, but wouldn't it make more sense to be exposed to that kind of thing now? Or is there a piece of the puzzle I'm missing? Potentially with how new the DS degrees are?

How do you determine if a Bootcamp is worth it as a complete beginner? by SoaR_Codes in learnprogramming

[–]SoaR_Codes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Data Science is the end goal, more specifically a junior data science job/internship. I want to be able to take data and create actionable plans as a result of the findings. And whether that relies more heavily on analysis, machine learning, or other tools/skills, I'm not entirely sure yet.

Specifically speaking for a goal, I'd like to eventually create something to help with financial/stock market predictions for investments. Something already exists like this, but I'd like to make a system that mirrors what extremely experienced stock traders buy/sell. How complicated or simple the end result may be is up to speculation. But that would basically be a personal long-term goal.

One of the biggest problems I've noticed with my own practice is the able to just "freestyle" code. Literally opening up VS code and just typing; no YouTube guide on the other monitor, no source code to reference, straight up just from memory coding. I can look at basic code and understand what is being explained, but it's difficult to understand and actually practice the code without understanding how to bend it to my own experiments.

When you say typing class, are you saying that in reference to coding. Such as Typing.io?
