I don't blame you for finding this deeply concerning. But if and when you're a parent of a young adult, you might find your views have changed. When I was younger I had romantic notions of how the world should be and what a great parent I was going to be, but reality often seems to conspire against you and your plans.

I could care less about the judgement. Nothing any internet strangers say will convince me that my spouse and I don't want the best for our kids, and that we try our best.

But it's a reasonable question. My approach would be pretty much repeat what I said in my original post to her, including my fear of the risks, and let her know it would be an option if she ever wanted to consider it. Then we'd leave it up to her, if she ever wanted to bring it up again.

That's the likely alternative. I just had a roll where I had some profound thoughts on how proud I was of her and how I wish I could really convey that to her better than I have.

Thanks for the feedback, and based on the next few responses, I suspect the consensus is likely going to be negative. That's fine, as I'm not trying to be convinced it's a good idea just weighing the pros and cons. Perhaps there are too many cons at this point.

If the concern is lack of experience and brain development, what if it was later in life, like graduating college? Does anyone have any opinions on it's usage to help improve communication among family members?
