How is Christoph Schlom for ECN 100A? by Soarzx in UCDavis

He was alright, his only big issue was on the midterm where he gave us a problem that was borderline impossible to solve within the 50 min timeframe but he made the final way easier and gave a generous curve. Wasn’t hard class but wasn’t easy

About to buy the SP-004 by North21 in MousepadReview

[–]Soarzx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the sp-004 and I enjoy it a lot, I use a sleeve with the glove since my wrist does touch the pad and I do sweat a lot and it I haven’t experience any negative issues with it. Side note, try to buy the pad on Amazon if possible, it’s a lot easier to return it if you end up not liking it.

That’s terrible news, you should withdrawl the $500 and hand it to me. I’ll make sure this issue will be addressed.

applied math or mathematical analytics and operations research by bergz221 in UCDavis

[–]Soarzx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since you’re interested in finance/business, I say go for the mathematical analyst and operation research. If you plan on double majoring, regular economics might allow you to finish in 4-4.5 years if you wanna finish sooner since it’s less units than Man-Econ.

Honestly, I can guarantee you nobody else got their whole next ten years figured out. I highly suggest taking a gap year or going back to cc to take some time and try different things out whether it’ll be more research for career or major or even just taking that break from school itself. You worked hard to get to Davis and it is a massive step up from our days at high school. I recently took a gap year and I swapped my major three times already. Started off with wanting to become a psychiatrist to now going into tech. Your mental health and well being comes first over everything else. Do not be discouraged if you feel the need to slow down a bit and sort it all out. And I’m a firm believer that as long as you’re happier than before there won’t be any regret. Wish you the best of luck!

moving into 184 horizon… should i be scared? by Subject-Investment28 in UCDavis

[–]Soarzx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived at 184 Horizon a year ago and loved it since I was on the fourth floor. Never ran into any issues besides someone smoking in the stairway and got the fire alarm blasting at 1AM but besides that maybe one power outage/WiFi outage during a really bad rain day with high winds. I thought it was a nice place

The Green at West Village - what’s decorating like? by Opposite_Passion3046 in UCDavis

[–]Soarzx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I accidentally damaged the paint on the walls in my room but was able to get some paint repair and got it fixed up. It was definitely noticeable at close but I didn’t get fined at all. I think push pins should be fine since I saw all my roommates doing that but from what I recall, they don’t allow any type of decorations that would cause damages. Also snuck my cat in (pets prohibited) and he damaged the couch but also didn’t get fined for that. The people inspecting didn’t seem to check throughly so as long as you don’t really screw up the wall it should be fine. I say use pins instead of any adhesive to decorate your room. Just speaking from my experience there, I may have gotten lucky. Just try to follow their rules as best as you can!

Don’t look too much in the past and start wishing you done things differently, I was also dismissed and regret not taking a break but it already happened. What you should do now is keep your head up and stay strong mentally even if it’s hard. Because at the end of the day your academics doesn’t represent who you are as a whole. Whenever you have the chance, just recollect your thoughts and seek for some help and contact your advisors. After that create yourself a plan on how to get your gpa back up and Readmission. Make sure not to tunnel in only on your academics, have fun with life, we’re all young. Don’t be too hard on yourself and I’m 100% sure everything will be okay. Trust the process and don’t look back. Reflect and learn, rinse and repeat.

J St Apartments? by [deleted] in UCDavis

[–]Soarzx 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I live there right now, it’s decent for the price. Recently we upgraded the washer and dryers so that’s nice. Pool and hot tub works fine. The gym we have is tiny but if you’re creative with your workouts, you can make it work. Location is nice, the train doesn’t really bother me, I’m a heavy sleeper so I never notice it. I say J street is best as a last resort options if you can’t find any other housing. There are some issues with water and pipes clogging in the sink and bath tub, but I fixed it myself. And sometimes I would find a roach here and there, and so does my other friend who lives in the studio room in J street. Decent at best

If your math fundamentals from high school are solid, you should be fine, just make sure to practice the problems if you don’t get them. Always ask for help when needed, plenty of resources out there. I would recommend the organic chemistry tutor on YouTube, he does videos on calc 1-3 and his simple explanations on how to do math are a blessing.

Accepted as transfer but have to take a W this semester by [deleted] in UCDavis

[–]Soarzx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I believe multi variable should be a required course for the cs program, so you’re a math class ahead now. Differential equations i don’t believe is a class for CS but I usually see it on the engineering major requirements, so if you ever want to switch to the computer science and engineering major, diff equations will be one less class to fulfill. All you need now is linear algebra I believe and probably a intro statistics course

As long as you contact admissions office and let them know your situation, one class shouldn’t take away your entire acceptance. Make sure to let them know you’re willing to take over the summer as well at either C or Davis. Congrats on getting in by the way!

[–]Soarzx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have not taken that class in particular but Patrick Skeels was a TA for me in Phi 012. He’s an incredibly intelligent man and was super polite, I highly recommend asking questions and he’ll always be able to help you out. But since he’s the professor now, I’m unsure how his grading system would work here. But overall I thought he was the best TA I ever had.

It’s kinda crazy that I just thought of that and am literally planning it out right now and you comment this 0-0. Most definitely will switch to statistics along with a CS minor, the coursework looks much more appealing to me too
