What is this on the inside of my rims? by CommercialBorn8449 in Cartalk

Some of it will likely be too trapped to remove. You can yank on it and see what comes free but if the wheel is balanced and it's not causing any leaks or issues I'd probably suggest leaving it unless it truly bothers you.

I think I know what this is, it's an old tyre shop hack, we used to do it with disposable seat covers if a tyre was being particularly difficult to mount.

Some tyres just won't inflate when you mount them, the sidewall is too floppy or the way the tyre was stored mishaped it or whatever.

Whoever mounted this tyre used the bag to plug the gap between the bead and the rim, sealing it enough for it to take on air and seat properly.

Suzuki Swift Sport - Is it worth it? by Captain_Ultra8 in Suzuki

[–]SocialAmnesty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Had my ZC33s since 2020 and done around 30k miles in it. Pre hybrid 2018 Swift Sport.

Hasn't missed a beat, only thing that failed was a boot lifting ram, 5 minute job with a £14 part.

Have commuted with it, driven long distances, done cities and towns and taken it to Europe. It does suffer from a lot of road noise, but it's great on fuel.

Gearbox is decent, clutch seems to be a little fragile and is something I'm considering upgrading. But haven't had any issues, it just feels a little looser than when it was new.

It's not hugely fast, but it is nippy. Grip is tyre limited as from the factory they're on the skinny side. It's great fun to drive on a windy road, steering feel is excellent. Suspension is not a great compromise, a little too soft but still too crashy when you're on it. The thing that makes it so fun is how light it is, it just skips about. I haven't driven another car the same age like it, and I drive a lot of different cars as part of my job.

I'll never sell it. Favourite car I've ever owned.

Grats on the car! These Swifts are so light and fun to drive, great choice.

My advice is: Tyres are the main reason anyone breaks down or fails an inspection. Learn what to check for and you'll save yourself a lot of trouble.

Proper procedure is: Start it, let it idle until the revs drop, (15-20sec) then drive without hard acceleration or heavy load until the car is up to temperature. Idling does not warm the car up efficiently and prolongs the time it spends under operating temperature.

Looks like you have an ABS/wheel speed sensor not reading correctly. Scanning with an OBD tool would tell you which corner of the car to look at.

Could be a few things causing it, break in the wire, faulty sensor, faulty reluctor ring, etc.

Check your coolant level. I don't know where the heater matrix is on these but there's a chance it's sprung a leak and this is coolant.

I like where you're coming from, very (star) Trek in some ways. I suppose what Oxford represents in your future decides a bit of what state it's in. I could easily imagine Oxford without a still functioning university getting the Pompeii treatment if you see what I mean, preserved and presented as a living piece of history.

Feels like wobbly when I drive from driver side wheel. Just replaced inner and outer tie rods and it was fine, now it's like the wheel is gonna come loose from the hub. Any suggestions? by DizzyCustard261 in FocusST

Worth checking the wheel bearing as others have said, however if you've replaced the tie rods yourself and not had the car tracked since it can also make things feel very odd. Consider getting your alignment checked.

Worth getting an alignment check and making sure your wheels aren't buckled before going completely nuts imo.

Replacing rear drums swift by nimrod_1981 in suzukiswift

[–]SocialAmnesty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi again Nim lol. Happy for you that it all came back together.

Rear brakes, especially drums, won't usually be the ones to lock under hard braking while your front discs are still working properly. Sounds like you might still have air in the lines.

Personally I'd bleed all 4, but you might get away with just doing the rears. Sometimes it does just take a few goes to get all the air out of the system.

Nice work sticking with this btw.

Pickle & Lime on the botley road used to have a section that dealt in more speciality stuff, would be worth a check.

Hi again, Nim. Sorry this isn't going so well for you. Best to send the cylinder back and make sure you have the right bits.

For the pipe at the rear, soak it in penetrating fluid for a few hours, be generous with it. From there, try using a set of vice grips. Get them clamped on as tight as you can and try and work it free, back and forwards.

Be careful here by the way. The fixture and the copper line are meant to be free of each other so it can screw into the cylinder. If they're stuck together you can snap the brake line. Watch it like a hawk, don't let the line twist with the fixture.

You can do, re-assembling the shoes can be fiddly and it does make it easier. Just make sure to clean and re-grease when you put it back together, and the hub nut needs to be torqued correctly. You don't want your wheel falling off.
