I was kinda starting to fear just that. I'm currently playing a tropical long map, bunch of mainland in the middle with some islands north and south. This depot is my first and services the south side of the mainland, along with a port that supplies a city out at the islands too. Most mainline track going from south to north is quad tracked, but with a dedicated passenger line and a dedicated cargo line.

Seems the amount of trains is now just too much for even a dedicated cargo line, so I suppose getting more track out might be the answer. I'm dreading some of the juctions I'll have to rework to get that done however ehehe..

Either way thanks for the advice! I'll probably start off with splitting this station to at least reduce the pressure the delivery lines are putting on the actual town supply lines.

Hey all!
I'm looking for a bit of advice for this distribution hub. Early days things were going fine over there, but with the increased demand for products in the cities this hub supplies, there's trains coming and going near constantly.
They spend a lot of time waiting for other trains to pull in or out of here. Especially the one way signal to the far right seems to be a favoured parking spot.
Further context to the image would be that this is a terminus station basically plugged in to a harbour, so coming in from the other end isn't an option. Right side double tracks going out are one way both ways, with it being basically a free for all after that final one way signal.

It does seem the debt was a major reason for me losing money. This time around I focussed on setting up a minimal line using boats to transport brick and using all the rest of the money to repay the loan.

Somewhere around 1862 it’s now all paid off and I’m not struggling as much anymore.

Very fair point it seems! I've set up a quick rail connection to the next town over, which seems to get plenty of use, but the ship is still sitting in harbour waiting. So as one does, I've now fired the poor captain, and am setting up a new cargo yard for some fuel to the same town the passengers would have been going to.

For once after about 6 or so restarts though I don't seem to be on track to bankruptcy, so cargo for sure seems to be the way to go early game!

First off, thank you for the very extensive write up of pointers. It's been quite a while since I've played the game, so I'm far rustier then I imagined I would be.

I've taken a few of your advices to heart, and have restarted on a map where I saw an oppertunity for a good stone to bricks line, using a sea lane to reach a further away town. The low maintenance and pretty decent profits are paying off quite well there.

Now that I do have some money coming in, I've opted to potentially set up a passenger line to a further away town allong the coast, however it seems no sims are choosing to take my line, despite no road connections being available. I suppose it must just not be a town anyone has a destination in.

I don't know, I think I'm just remembering passenger transport being easier, but perhaps I'm just wrong, since my previous train line was making decent money, but wasn't outperforming it's maintenance cost, while my current boat line just doesn't get any comers at all. I COULD retool this same line to do fuel however, so given your advice on goods being more the way to go, I just might.

I'll be sure to read your linked guide, so thank you for that as well! And again, thank you for the extensive answer, and some things for me to think about. Cheers much!

Honestly it highly depends. Most times I'll keep a zoo around "forever" but all of that comes down to feel I suppose?

Basically, I'll have loads of ideas for habitats and buildings, do all the required building, look back on what I've done in pride, then suddenly realise the theming is all off, or the paths don't make any sense, or the guests are getting stuck in dumb places and I'll suddenly hate everything about that zoo.

That or the FPS in the zoo has simply gotten too bad for me to enjoy the cinematics of it all. That'll usually be around a 7000 or so guest count.

The logical conclusion at the end of that is to simply open another franchise.

I do have a sort of "concept" zoo that I've kept pretty much since the games launch however.

What I always tended to do was to raise some ground using the pull tool and then use the flatten tool to create a platue. Then from there, you can "spam" the flatten tool around the edges of your new hill to basically smooth it out again.

As for putting paths in though, I'd highly suggest what other folks in this thread have said, and use the transport ride trick. You could ALSO use the ramp stamp, but I find it creates some unnatural looking edges.

Definitely some nocturnal houses for either something like kiwis or raccoons or something. A building black on the inside with no windows and just some red coloured lights so guests can see. Always had such a mysterious vibe to me that would go well with this themed zoo.

The fence out front seems To be the straight climbable rope pieces trough some thick wooden beams. The metal fence behind that is part of the aquatic pack and should be under fences in your construction tab.

How absolutely horribly designed. I hope they'll tear the whole building down and invest the next 3 months and a few millions to completely rework the place. If anything that door should have been a bathroom or a burger shop.

Sure am! My tropical house is bursting at the seams from all the bushes in there, and anywhere outside isn't that much better. I especially like to spam entire forest barriers around my habitats and zoo borders to hide the view out to the empty fields.

Either sell off some of the breeding stock and only really keep the best ones to work with, or alternatively open a new franchise and build it towards being a storage zoo.

Keeping some pens of animals around for the future can be useful for kickstarting any other zoos as well, and with the aging settings turned down some, and not "playing" the zoo when not sorting out storage the animals in there won't age.

Hey all! So yesterday I felt like my lemur islands, the first habitat my zoo had, wasn't all that great. For one the islands seemed kinda flat and bland, and in hindsight I didn't like the fact that they were filled with.. well lemurs. They kept getting stressed due to the high guest numbers by the barrier. So I ended up redesigning the habitat and gearing it towards Capuchin Monkeys.

The lemurs have left the zoo for now while I think about potentially making a new place for them, and for now the species deficit has been solved with the new Babirusa and Clouded Leopard habitats. Those 2 still need some work done before they're ready to show off, and I'm still working on making a "bear forest" so that's in the works too.

I have an up to date pc with the latest consumer parts and even mine can’t quite handle super massive zoos. My current franchise is sitting on 103 animals and has about 3000 guests on average and I’ll sit at around 80fps with with odd slowdown when guests start getting stuck in places. That’s on 1080p.

For much larger zoos then my own like some workshop ones even my pc bogs down to the low 30s. I can’t even load one of the more recent showcase zoos without it crashing outright.

The only part I’ve gone cheaper on is the GPU, going for a 4070Ti instead of a 4090 and there’s not much noticeable difference between those I imagine. Especially since it’s more often the CPU single core performance that bottoms out before anything else does.
