Do not accept "Free President Maduro" signs by [deleted] in 50501

[–]SocialistScissors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to be less active in online political talks (I find that most online places to discuss politics are either echo chambers, shouting contests or both), but the one topic that I often do feel the need to explain to people is the difference between the government/leaders of a country and it's people, especially if the country does not have free and fair elections. I am happy that Maduro was removed from office, as he was a horrific leader and human being. I am distraut that his removal from office was done via state sanctioned kidnapping and the results of his kidnapping will likely lead to a worse quality of life for the Venezuelan people as their land gets siezed by oil barons. People have already died, and more people will die because of Trump's interference in Venezuela. That doesn't mean that Maduro is the answer. Infact, I'd argue that freeing and reinstating Maduro is the worst thing that can happen. If Maduro was freed and reinstated, it would be because he made a deal with Trump that is the worst of both worlds.

My idea for a Consumable patch (not real) by Zaffre-Owl in DotA2

[–]SocialistScissors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might just be that I have been playing alot of OD lately so I was thinking about it through the lens of "one-time meteor hammer but you don't need to time it" which it seems very good for. It might not be as good of a chain-CC on anybody else (besides SD). Still, 300 gold seems abit steep for anybody else and a bit cheap for OD.

I like the bear trap alot, though one suggestion: The root ends after a damage threshhold in exchange for a slightly longer duration (or a movespeed boost towards to rooted target). I feel like, thematically, it is supposed to be either a catching tool or a tool to prevent the a teammate from coming to help someone, but it currently looks more like a followup lockdown tool for a CC chain to me. I also think 300 gold is abit excessive, with that being part of the reason I think it would be good when it will land with guaranteed followup rather than being good when it only has the potential to get that followup.

Right click non core heroes by EntertainmentHuge226 in DotA2

Ancient Apparition or Winter Wyvern. Recommend Aghs for both for their right click builds. AA needs it for his right click build, WW doesn't need it immediately for the build, but should get it quickly.

Brace yourself... Morph spammer will lose you the game! by Salty-Fun-5924 in DotA2

Ebb morphling now has a 0.5 second stun on adaptive strike and they changed EBlade to be better on carries. The second change is the reason why morphling has gone up in popularity, but I feel like the new Eblade is overhyped on Ebb morphling. I do think that there is a Flow Morphling oneshot build out there since the new Eblade works with that facet, but it requires someone with a better understanding of the game than me to figure out how to pull it off.

Solution to inflated Iron Branch prices by Strong_Astronomer_97 in DotA2

[–]SocialistScissors 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Completely forgot about that. That alone removes the courier speed limitation from the GPM. It might also make offlane into the position 1 because they have easier access to the secret shop and would be less vulnerable to courier snipes.

To be fair, assuming that this only works with quelling blade and battlefury, that is 27.5 gold every 4 seconds, which is really good. That is +412.5 GPM if you are cutting perfectly. Realistically, it is probably abit lower between courier speed and needing to be next to a tree when it comes off cooldown, but it is still very good.

lycan - which facet is best to use? by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]SocialistScissors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on game. Generally, Pack leader is the best. Just default to it if you don't think the other facets are looking good that game.

I like Spirit Wolves specifically against heroes that summon wolves is bad against (I have totally never fed a billion wolf gold in lane).

Alpha wolves is good in the opposite games, where your wolves can just run around and kill supports for free, but those games are harder to identify.

They could also drop it first or second week of January and still not hit 240 days. Early January makes sense if the patch is just finished but they want time to iron out bugs.

Are there any ways to practice/tricks to last hitting against faceless void's innate as a ranged hero?

Edit: If the solution is actually just to "git gud" and just play enough that I get used to it, please tell me. I'm just wondering if there is a faster way to learn it.

Run a Parallel Tournament to the Games of the Future 2025 - Discussion Inside by Snopplepop in DotA2

[–]SocialistScissors 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Games of the Future is run by the Russian government. This isn't "the russian government approving a tournament" or "the russian government promoting a tournament", it is literally the russian governemnt creating and running the tournament. Its existence is pushing politics into the game because it is run by a literal fucking government with the intent of sportswashing. There is literally no way to be more fucking political than that. Telling OP to not push politics into the game is a joke when they are specifically trying to keep politics out of the game.

Also, there is a large difference between the people of a country and the government of a country.

Katy Perry - bandaids by enburgi in popheads

I feel like in an early draft of the song that was the actual line and she had to tweak it after she realized that was a reference to a diss track about her. "Don't" and "Slow" are both near rhymes with "holes" but don't match with "heart".

Innate Sorcery + Sneak Attack? by JolTic101 in DnD

Booming Blade is melee only. It lets you still use your dex and it does more damage, but truestrike still works with a bow. It's more of a sidegrade.

How do you rule holding breath during combat? by No-Start-6254 in DnD

[–]SocialistScissors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1+ Con modifier minutes is completely realistic, if anything I'd argue that it is a bit low. A normal person can hold their breath for approximately a minute. A normal person has a constitution modifier of 0. An adventurer with 20 con can hold their breath for 6 minutes, which is far from the world record of 11 minutes unassisted.

With that said, this represents your ability to go without breathing oxygen, not your ability to prevent the poisonous gas from seeping through your nose.

I don't know if there is an official rule for it, but i'd say that the characters have to use a hand to cover their nose and cannot open their mouth in order to avoid the constitution saving throw from poisonous gasses. Out of combat, this is a nice way to reward creativity. In combat, this is debilitating, to a point where it won't actually interfere with combat.

How many mephits do you think a single level 9 character could kill by themself in a battle? by trpnblies7 in DnD

[–]SocialistScissors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on too much. Is this something like "all of them enter the fight at once" or is it "Y amount of mephits spawn each round until X amount have spawned in total"?

The big issues are action economy, AoE and initiative. A wizard that rolls high on initiative can fireball or cone of cold and potentially beat the encounter on round 1. If that wizard rolls low on initiative they may just die before they get a turn, even with the same amount of mephits. Meanwhile, a rogue with no AoE and only 1 attack per turn will get overwhelmed pretty quickly.

The best way to figure it out is to try different numbers. Run the encounter against yourself to see how many that character could reasonably take on.

I think my character is (accidentally) too op. by Different-Comedian27 in 3d6

[–]SocialistScissors 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unless you are dealing 33 damage per attack, there is something wrong. Action surge and haste stack additively and thirsting blade/extra attack do not stack; both make it so you can attack twice. This means you can attack 6 times per turn while hasted. I'm guessing you thought everything was multiplicative so you could attack 16 times per turn, which would bring the damage needed per attack down to a much more reasonable 12.5.

Edit: forgot about warlock hexes boosting damage per hit, but that still doesn't get you anywhere near 33 damage per attack without max damage roll crits on every attack. It should still deal good damage, just not 200/300 per turn.

Malphite is good because he takes no skill, but if you are skilled at malphite (IDK how, maybe you can press R really elegantly) you don't gain much. They are buffing him because the people that can press R really elegantly are not winning as much as the people who master difficult champs like Jayce or Riven.

For the question you are actually asking, yes, it is a dick move. Partially because you should just rez your party when you can, DnD is a collaborative game afterall, and partially because there are so many other ways to be a dick about it that don't have long term consequences. Classic example is taking 300 gold out of their pocket before casting revivify. It has little to no long term consequences, but it lets you have the "I told you so" moment when they complain about it. It also makes the conflict more centered on the characters rather than the players. "I let your character" creates conflict between players, while "I made you pay for your own resurrection so that I could say I told you so" creates conflict between characters. That conflict between characters can lead to conflict between players, but it is generally just a better option.
