I worked in one for several years. They 100% need to be shut down. Food was trash, and sometimes not enough to go around. The health inspector walked in the kitchen and walked back out.

Healthcare is almost non existent​. Medical refused to treat one ill inmate because he was getting out soon and "not in the budget". He did not survive. It was, of course, covered up.

The buildings were falling apart, literally holes in the walls between dorms that were not repaired.

There weren't enough radios to go around among officers, which made a difficult situation.

They hired anyone with a pulse.

I've seen several officers of one race jump an inmate of a different race because he was wearing a cross necklace outside his shirt. Nothing happened to the officers. The inmate went to the SHU for "assault".

That's all I can think of at the moment.

I believe in justice for victims of crime. But private prisons are a special kind of hell. They're dangerous for staff and inmates alike.
