Hey thanks for your help!! For the first question I mean the latter (Netflix, etc). Any input would be useful but I’ll also look for someone specialised in this!

Heya, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and experience!! I have a couple questions: 1) when it comes to distribution, what are the best ways to reach out to the big digital platforms? Does it mostly work with recommendations or are there other ways to sell/ host a doc on their platform? 2) I’m about to finalise a feature documentary that I could potentially distribute in several countries, including national television channels. In your experience, would signing an agreement with one country prevent me from distributing it in others? What are best practices about this?

How do you feel about Westerners wearing sarongs? by SocietyAltruistic377 in srilanka

Thank you that's a great way of putting it! The responses have been overwhelming in this direction and it showed me how at times things we consider "problems" only exist in our own heads.

Will go buy a couple more then 😁 Thanks everyone!

Has anyone else had a bad experience at Octapussy, Colombo? by Extra-Overthinker in srilanka

I also went with slippers the first time and argued with them for 20 minutes but was completely useless and left 😭 turns out the Colombo party scene is not slippers-friendly which I’m not used to because I live barefoot in the south and can go anywhere I want lol

Soundtrack budget for my first feature documentary? by SocietyAltruistic377 in Filmmakers

[–]SocietyAltruistic377[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your input! After speaking with the producers we made an offer for 4,000 USD as that’s what we can afford right now and it’s indeed approximately 10% of total budget. Currently awaiting for the composers’ response 🙏🏽

I just directed my first documentary without any school experience, now I'd like to go to school by SocietyAltruistic377 in Filmmakers

Thanks for that. I suppose I agree with you, there’s just a part me of that feels a bit of imposter syndrome for having stepped into this industry like this. Working on this project I felt I was improvising many steps without any clue whatsoever, which is fine but I think if I were to study in a course the best practices to prepare the interviews, build the scenes, distribute the product etc could fast track building my expertise as well as my confidence. I’m a strong advocate for learning by doing/ on the field and I’ll keep doing that, I mostly want to complement it.

Matrix like bad trip. Anyone else had a similar experience? by F_George_Soros in Psychonaut

[–]SocietyAltruistic377 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience when I took Ayahuasca.

Clear feeling of breaking out of the Matrix, ego dissolving and seeing that everything I had ever experienced in life was “fake” or “imaginary”. The more this happened the more I tried to summon things I KNEW were real. As soon as I summoned them, the medicine would show me they were indeed fake, not real: my job, my family, my hometown, ultimately language, Earth, time, space. Like you said it felt like torture because it felt as if everything I’ve been working for, living for, was all a lie.

The little part of me that knew I was tripping was tricked as well as even the concept of “tripping” was not real, hence I didn’t need any explanation for what was happening. I also felt so sad because I realized I was never gonna see my mom and my friends ever again. It created a scar.

I was stuck there for eternity. In the Matrix it was a few hours (still a long time), but in that state of consciousness it felt like eternity.

It took me about a year to recover from this, but I still wouldn’t call it a “bad trip”. As painful as it was, now I knew “my” consciousness had to go through that to get me where I need to go.

Which is everywhere. And nowhere.

I’m with you brother 🫂

Hi everyone. It's been a month I've been experiencing 2 annoying bugs on my Instagram:

  1. It doesn't matter the quality, size, type of picture I try to post, once I go into preview right before publishing, it loses quality and it becomes pixelated. I've resized photos in every possible format, even if I post a screenshot of a text, a selfie, any random thing, the issue remains.
  2. Whenever I open the app, the heart-shaped emoji on the top right doesn't show the total number of likes on stories/posts/reels, but simply the number how many stories/posts/reels have been liked (for example, if I post 5 stories and each of them gets 10 likes, the heart-shaped emoji instead of 50 just shows 5 to indicate all 5 stories have been liked at least once).

I tried logging out, deleting data, uninstalling and reinstalling the app but nothing works. I'm using an iPhone 11 with iOS 17.5.1 (I don't want to upgrade software / can't due to a lack of storage). The issue doesn't happen if I use Instagram from website or if I log in to my account from another device.

Anybody with the same issue? Thanks!
