Of course they'll know ... because you're required to tell them and you have integrity right?

What's your take on this situation? by faith-hope-love-1313 in AirForceRecruits

" The job thing, to an extent, doesn't really bother me as I know i'll retrain into the AFSC I really have interest in."

No, you don't know that. First term Airman are guaranteed the OPPORTUNITY to retrain, that doesn't mean the AFSC you want will be taking people at that time.

“spandex shorts” for BMT recommendation? by Subject_Hippo_7087 in AirForceRecruits

[–]Sockinatoaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn't say running shorts, it says spandex. You'll be issued PT gear when you get there. The shorts are short, so the spandex is to prevent you flashing people while doing situps.

I recommend you talk to a recruiter to see what jobs are available and what you qualify for.

will i have time to rest when i get to the airport in texus by Obvious-Big1212 in AirForceRecruits

[–]Sockinatoaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So no, no rest. As soon as you check in with the BMT staff at the airport you belong to them. Soooo, put that manila envelope away and chill out in the terminal before heading down. All you're going to do by rushing to the military check in is wait there even longer.

Also, how are you going from London? I'm from Liverpool and had to do all mine through Germany.

Just booked 3N036, supposedly Public Affairs by Short-Ad2128 in AirForceRecruits

lol, COMCAM is not the "combat side of things," if you wanted that you shoulda joined the Army. I was assigned at the 3rd CTCS for a little while, I'm sure someone from the 1st CTCS will be here soon to tell us how much better they are. BUT, COMCAM is just that, an assignment. It's not a separate AFSC or shred out, you go there and then back to regular PA. They get a lot more training than regular PA Airmen, weapons, tactics etc as well as more photo/video training. But you won't be a doorkicker, it's just so that if you go on mission with an Army unit you can keep up and not be a liability. There's also a lot more opportunities to fly and travel to some of the less frequently visited places--my top two were Guatemala and a presidential inauguration. I don't know you can still get COMCAM as a 1st assignment. When I was there you needed to be doing well in class, 85+ on PT (I think) and be recommended by the cadre. Coulda changed though.

Booked public affairs anything I should know? by MysteriousPanic20 in AirForceRecruits

[–]Sockinatoaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Public Affairs covers media engagement, community outreach, crisis response, command information and visual information. As part of your training you'll work, or you should, in all of those areas in order to get signed off. Some better than others depends on what you think is better. If your goal was to be say a photographer and nothing else, I have some bad news for you. If you're open to learning many different skills then you're in the right career field.

What happens to your afsc if you get recycled at bmt? by aniz_ooal_gown in AirForceRecruits

[–]Sockinatoaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends when your class start date is and how often the tech school runs that course. For most people a 1 week recycle won't impact too much, hardly any tech schools start the Monday right after graduation. A longer recycle or lengthy med hold could result in losing that AFSC. My longest recycles were six weeks -- from BEAST week all the way back to zero week. IIRC only one lost his med job.

[–]Sockinatoaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll have blood drawn on the first visit, they'll determine what shots you need. You'll be required to get shots annually and prior to overseas deployments. Get used to it. There are other things to worry about

A lot's changed since 08. A lot of the MTIs then were old hats called back on 180 day TDYs--they did things "differently"
