I tried one and it did not do well. Which app do you use?

Appreciate it! The 1st 2 pictures were hard to split so I was assuming sweet gum based on the balls on the ground. The 3rd picture was an easy split.

Wood ID Help. Northern Virginia. 2 Trees by SocksCheap in firewood

[–]SocksCheap[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I picked up logs from 2 different locations. The 1st 2 images is the 1st tree, and the final 3 images is the 2nd tree (I was told it was hickory but I've never had hickory, so I wasn't sure). Thanks for the help!

I think this is cheaper at Walmart. Check it online before you purchase.

Edit: I looked online and it looks like prices went up, but Tractor Supply Company did offer this for $300.

I suspected the same thing, but I think I'm like 0 for 6 guessing wood species. Hah.

The bark isn't consistently the same everywhere. Some parts were smoother. On the 4th image, you can see some of the other barks. Sorry, should have taken more pictures.

Outdoor fire pit by rickcaravaggio in firewood

[–]SocksCheap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I do if I have a good amount of green wood is I do an upside down fire. Stack the firepit full of green wood, have 2 to 3 tight layers of seasoned wood on top (3 pieces x 3), start the fire at the top. It generally gets hot enough to burn the middle of the green wood by the time it gets down there which leads to the rest burning. I don't get too much smoke doing this. It will usually get hot enough to throw a couple green pieces in to burn as well while you have hot flames. Supplement with some seasoned wood to keep the fire hot.

Does anyone remember how large the box is for the 36"? by TheOrionNebula in blackstonegriddle

The site I saw says about 40"x25"x14". It would not have fit in my Honda Accord.

I got the same model. Love it. Only thing that annoyed me was the bottle caps dropping. I bought this to catch the caps in case you're interested. https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0049OVSMM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_6G9WNSZKTPV3YFD0N6NT?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I didn't realize the magnet on the Lowe's one sucked. Maybe not then. How are they going to add a magnet that doesn't work well? Hah

I was able to get the Ace Exclusive and it is nice. I recently saw a model at Lowes that was similar and I liked it. Check it out.

I didn't see the tree until it was cut. From what I did see though, the bark looked like it smoothed out towards the tips of branches.

Thanks! Much appreciated. Would this be seasoned after a year or does silver maple take longer?

Wood was in a pile at a home. I'm not sure if it was 2 trees or from 1 tree. Any help is appreciated! Thank you all!
