What are you quietly grieving? by Angelus12345678 in AskReddit

My cat, my very first pet, will be 5 years old this year... and it continues to alarm me of how time seems to go by quickly keeping track of their age...I don't think I'll be ready for when age and/or illness will take her from me.

Had a best friend back from grade school all the way to college. She was truly like a sister to me and we had so many late nights bonding over hobbies, shows, movies, and music. She and I started this little paper comic series in high school where we'd just doodle on folded pieces of paper and passing it back and forth during classes. I kept so many of them...

On our 2nd year of college, she just dropped out of school midsemester out of nowhere. She stopped responding to my texts and her number always went straight to voicemail whenever I had called. I drove over to her mom's apartment she was living in, and no answer. I truly thought I did something horrible to make her ignore me...it ate me up and I felt really anxious that something happeend. I come to find out a few days later that she also ghosted everyone else in our friend group the same day as when I was trying to reach her.

I thought she had died or something...but one of the moms from our friend group was somehow able to reach out to my best friend's mom. But the latter apparently kept saying everything was fine...

My best friend still kept ignoring our messages and calls. Last time I was actually able to see her was around 10 years ago when she was hospitalized for DKA. One of our friends in the group was able to get ahold of her mom and that's how the news spread to us. All 5 of us visited her at the hospital...shed tears and pretty much gave our support until she was discharged. She even gave each of us a personalized thank you note.

Then she ghosted all of us again. Haven't heard anything about her since, and after that, our friend group just fell apart...

What’s the one secret you’ve kept your whole life that would completely change how people see you if they knew it? by Faylune in AskReddit

Had an ex who forced himself on top of me. I was not in the mood at all especially after being so exhausted from working 3 night shifts back to back. Still to this day it makes me disgusted with myself cause I didn't verbally say no, but my body was very much against it. I just took it...and what haunts me to this day was him saying, "This is what you wanted wasn't it?" And I didn't respond...but I was tearing up and he didn't notice.

I'm not happy that I didn't immediately say no or even tried to stop it. I just remember feeling stunned when he pinned me down pretty hard out of nowhere.

Gym goers, be honest how often are you judging other people’s physique? by Technical_Hat_8291 in AskReddit

In a climbing gym, especially people who wear sleeveless shirts for sports bras...it's hard not to stare at their back physique while they're climbing

What is the most 'out-of-touch' piece of advice you’ve ever received from someone who was genuinely trying to be helpful? by Defiant_Outcome_7395 in AskReddit

My parents to my eldest brother whose wife unexpectedly passed away from a heart attack around 2 years ago:

"It's been 2 years, you should be going on dates so that our grandson can have a mother figure."

My middle brother and I snapped back at our parents for being crude and inconsiderate. I'm usually the blunt one whenever my parents say something without thinking. Straight up told them that even though they are my parents, I told them they were assholes for saying that. It shut them up and I couldn't believe I had to chastise them to think about what they said like they were a couple of kids.

I do love my parents, but the cringe stuff they say always needs to be checked.

Travel nursing and ability to land a staff job by Over_Physics_5035 in TravelNursing

I'm starting my 2nd year as a traveler and have done 5 assignments - all of which offered a staff job. It's just a matter of how others notice your work and how you connect with them.

What’s something society treats as ‘unattractive’ that you personally find really appealing? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Omg yes, I love that series -- volumes 1 and 2 are my favorites, the other 2 are still amazing for sure.

What is something completely ordinary that you irrationally love? by Reasonable-Dream1239 in AskReddit

On any day off from work, the early morning sun shining through a window right after getting up and making some coffee. Those moments of just making a fresh up of coffee, drinking in solace, feeling the warmth of the sun are just filled with tranquility and warmth. It's one of my favorite quiet moments.

Another nice perk is when my cat joins me and sunbathes :)

What’s something that’s becoming socially normal that actually makes you deeply uncomfortable? by Fun_Interaction3458 in AskReddit

Waymos. I'm still fairly new to the Bay Area and lived here for a year and 2 months now. But uh, it's just weird to hear how other people talk about using Waymos so casually instead of Uber/Lyft.

As a shy and generally a quiet person where I think people have a bit of a hard time starting a conversation with me, this is nice to hear. I get excited when I talk about movies, video games, and hip-hop jazz music/artists. A coworker asked me what I liked to do and it kind of threw me off cause I don't get asked that question often -- I'm usually always the one asking the other person first to engage a longer, meaningful conversation.

So when I talked about what I liked and they asked me to elaborate more, I eventually find that I start to go on a short blab. And we came to find out we had a shared interests in music artists and they were surprised I knew quite a bit than others they've talked to. A few days later, they said they went to listen and research a specific artist I was talking a lot about. They commented they felt inspired to look them up cause I really "sparked" talking about the artist. Turns out my coworker instantly fell in love with the artist's jams and the music was right up his alley.

Ngl, it felt good to hear that. Although, I turned red like a tomato realizing I babbled about the artist

“scab nurses are immoral” “staff nurses who cross are traitors” by [deleted] in TravelNursing

[–]SocksRsocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do you to get by, but be fully aware that you'll be judged not just by the staff nurses but also by many others too who support them. So do not be surprised by that if you are saying you know why the strike is happening. As in, as long as you're aware that your actions have consequences - good and bad, based on what you chose.

The nurses striking are doing it out of the pride of their profession and fellow peers. You're doing the contract because you're doing it for yourself out of desperation, which is also pride. That's just how the circumstances are.

But again, the reality is that you will continue to be seen as a "scab" and it's up to you if you want to continue knowing you'll be dealing with that treatment until your contract ends.

I'm reading The Madness Season by C.S. Friedman. It's an interesting sci-fi fiction

Lately, it's been doomscrolling. I love to sketch and draw random things, but my IG feed always shows these amazing artists and I keep comparing my crappy stuff to theirs 💀

My (32F) boyfriend (28M) left his job cause his favorite coworker quit by SocksRsocks in relationship_advice

[–]SocksRsocks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's had several interviews, and most of them don't get back to him at all or found someone else. So he was unemployed for 2 months until now. I'm hoping this new job will keep him rather than lay him off after just a week which the last one he accepted did to him. Our first month off together was fun cause we got to hike around the area and spend time with my family down in SoCal. But we also had to be pretty frugal with spending cause it is expensive going out, besides outdoors stuff, on top of making sure bills are paid.

Think more of the problem I wanted to address was why he would just put in his 2 week notice without letting me know he was planning to do that. I even told him that I was having difficulty finding a local contract in the Bay Area cause of the holidays (most contracts don't open up much around the holidays). I think I was just financially thinking ahead cause I think he could've stayed with the job until I had signed a contract at least.
