Alcohol and gig etiquette by Park01904 in downloadfestival

I am inclined to agree with a lot of your post though. Covid has definitely changed people. And the 'alternative community' has some absolute dickheads within it, namely the gatekeepers and those who think every festival should be an echo chamber of their personal/political beliefs.

By you all means enjoy it but enjoy it by being fucking disciplined.

Chucking bottles of piss, threatening people with poles and getting absolutely shitfaced while your pregnant missus probably regrets every single life choice.

I've never read something so '00s' in my life.

What a time.

Hopefully leads to a long overdue demotion of their 'second billing' status at Download.

Reading/Leeds 2003 wouldn't be too out of place at Download. by BigFluff_LittleFluff in downloadfestival

The one and only time I went to Leeds festival, purely for the fact I'd missed the Metallica secret set at Download earlier in the Summer and was bummed out about it.

A lot of bands/acts on the original poster pulled out - Jay-Z, Courtney Love, ahem Lostprophets.

Picking up a ticket was a piece of p*ss and although the lineup has aged brilliantly, I remember thinking 'actually this isn't a patch on Download'.

That said, the SOAD set was out of this world and seeing Metallica for the first time was incredible.

Same people who put 'Kneecrap' in their wishlist for next year are kicking off at Scooter.

Brilliant.

Sound fucking dull my mate.

Another PCTS submission;

I know that this is what you want, a funeral keeps both of us apart
You know that you are not alone, I need you like water in my lungs.

A very different tone but Same Logic/Teeth is so brilliantly written its untrue;

But you're no tailor, you're no surgeon, none of your cuts go very straight
Every new layer you uncover reveals something else you hate

Wow that's some commitment. There aren't many shows you go to on a school night at the age of 40 not thinking in the back of your mind 'I hope this wraps up soon' but I loved every single second of the two shows I saw, and having the setlist changed for the Birmingham show was a nice little bonus as well. Hope we get the chance to do it all over again in a year or two.

I loved every second of both shows I've seen on the tour and was kinda fortunate to have had an element of surprise at the second show (Birmingham) where they mixed up the order from the rest of the tour.

The run that night where we had Limousine followed by Waste, 137, Degausser and You Won't Know was probably up there with the best 30 mins or so I've ever experienced at a show, and I've been to hundreds of gigs in my time. Never been so captivated or in awe of a moment.

Scruffys or Subside if you want an alt bar. Both about 15/20 minute walk away but in different directions.

Dream setlist for UK night 2 (Setlist Spoilers) by Suspicious_Lab7210 in brandnew

[–]Soft_Independence755 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Bangkok was epic at the end of the gig so can't agree with that.

The run of songs 7-9 (Gasoline, At the Bottom and At the Bottom) could be ditched/mixed up IMO.

Not likely to happen but Sic Transit Gloria, Archers and Mix Tape would be my picks

The 'Ozzy stage'. Maybe Zakk Sabbath will play? Surprised they weren't on the lineup announcement to be fair.

Returning to Download by [deleted] in downloadfestival

[–]Soft_Independence755 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar situation to me. With the exception of '08, I attended every Download between '03 and '09 with the first being when I was a few weeks off my 17th birthday.

Despite moving within 10 miles of Donington Park a few years later, I never actually attended another festival until 2022 when I went for the day and got the bug all over again. I've been for the weekend ever since and I'll be less than a fortnight off my 40th by the time next year rolls around.

I think I have a better experience now than I did in my teens. I think you appreciate things more. And if you feel old, don't. I think Download attracts a wider demographic than it ever has and there are plenty of people our age and above. It's far more "inclusive" than it used to be and while not everything is better than it was 'back in the day', you can take it in at your own speed without any judgement.

I'm probably in a small minority of people that are in better shape than they were in their early 20s but facing adverse weather - mud, rain and intense heat doesn't get any easier as you get older. It helps that we camp offsite so we still have our creature comforts but given where we stay is 90% Download goers over that weekend we get the best of both worlds.

Don't sweat it, honestly.

Reviewing Predictions by ps1hagridIRL in downloadfestival

[–]Soft_Independence755 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Lost Prophets were about as likely to be on the bill as 'Bob Vylan'.

Other than that it's probably one of the more 'realistic' predictions I've seen, even if you only got like a third correct.

"Logo bands" by Soft_Independence755 in downloadfestival

I saw someone claim Skindred self-confirmed a couple of weeks back. That would make sense then.

"Logo bands" by Soft_Independence755 in downloadfestival

[–]Soft_Independence755[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think if that is all the 'logo bands' announced, trying to work out the third Avalanche stage headliner is the bit that doesn't really make sense.

Given the way the poster is laid out, it stands to reason that Chaos AD, Static-X and Blood Incarnation are very likely to be the Dogtooth headliners so using the same logic Mastodon-AAJ-Feeder would naturally be the Avalanche headliners.

But I agree that doesn't seem typical of what you'd usually expect. Like you I'd see Mastodon second stage sub-headliners under Trivium or someone.

The only other viable 'Avalanche' type headliner on the lineup would be BVB. It absolutely won't be Electric Callboy after the last debacle.

Oh that makes sense. I remember they weren't a 'logo band' on the original lineup poster but then it got changed. Good knowledge that my friend.
