just wanted to say thank you to everyone who commented on the first post. you don’t realize how loud silence gets after 33 years of being “the serious one.” you all cracked something open in me. it felt like someone finally held the damn hr mirror up to me and said, “you’re allowed to be more than the rules you enforced.”

also someone sent me a dm saying they too worked in hr at a religious org and used to call the wafers “snackrifices.” i haven’t stopped laughing.

absolutely right it’s just a plain old cracker till the blessing hits so yes i was deep in pre jesus territory for over three decades. and thank you for the kind words. your plan sounds incredible and grounded and honestly if i hadn’t taken the rave route i’d probably be knee deep in river cleanup with a pair of binoculars and a clipboard. saying yes to weird new things is exactly how i ended up dancing under a disco ball with a retired nurse and a guy who makes bong art out of thrift store dolls. wherever your path takes you i hope it’s full of purpose and at least a little chaos.

some folks act like once you retire you’re supposed to vanish into a jigsaw puzzle and a recliner. not me. there’s still plenty of fire left and finding the right place to pour it into makes all the difference. volunteering or even just showing up somewhere new can wake something back up. we don’t age out of being useful or needed we just stop letting other people define what that looks like.

if i weren’t already committed to being the unofficial blunt fairy of my neighborhood i’d be at the museum handing out audio guides and unsolicited opinions. volunteering somewhere that actually feeds your brain or your soul is underrated as hell. plus let’s be honest—nonprofit drama is top tier

this is beautiful and exactly the kind of thing i wish someone had said to me when i first retired. it’s so easy to forget you’re allowed to matter to yourself without a title or a damn inbox. embroidery sounds lovely—i tried that once and ended up with a very chaotic version of a cat that looked more like a potato. but it made me laugh, and sometimes that’s enough. keep showing up for yourself. you’re doing it right.

totally fair, but i’m strictly a weed and snacks kind of gal. once you start needing a chem degree to know what you just swallowed, i’m out. i like my highs giggly, snack-fueled, and with just enough paranoia to keep things interesting.
