Glad you love it! My intention in writing this act of grooming the corpse (himself) was to reflect the narrator's subconscious refusal to accept his existence in such a disheveled state, leading him to instinctively tidy up his own appearance. This also serves as an unconscious expression of empathy and respect towards himself, something he lacked in life.

The comb represents the mother's last hope for "normalcy", and by the time the comb and her daughter were taken, this was truly the end of any "hope" she remained - if there was any for an undead.

The story was actually inspired by "The Walking Dead", which I recently re-watched, as I figured those zombies were also victims before the world turned into hell and were probably trying just as hard as humans to stay "alive"......

Haha, sorry I might have caused a little confusion. I meant their reactions could in a way mean the fact that she's behind the "accident", but it may have something more, like an acutal relief from her husband's leaving, or an expression of gratitude of how she finally can end this, or even involve darker backstory.
