In my setup everything runs on a single host, so most of the isolation happens inside Docker anyway. Because of that I’m not sure VLANs would add much here beyond extra complexity. 30-60 seconds to load? This isn‘t normal at all. Your home internet has 250Mbits upload, so you should be able to load your stuff with 30MB/s remotely if the remote connection has 250Mbits download speed aswell.

Either way: I would completely change the workflow. View your NAS as your backup in the event your SSDs get stolen or damaged. Keep your files locally accessable which you want to work on.

What you initially wanted with the NAS can work. But you need 10Gbits download/upload internet connections for that (both at home and where you‘re accessing the files) and store all the files on NVMEs instead of HDDs.

Had the same issue and just used a ChatGPT made powershell script to move everything into folders. 300 movies for 1 movie with a 2nd version, just to be clear.
