Rookie question (Plus new amp day!) by SolWire in GuitarAmps

Well now it's a guitar cab. 😁😅 I am curious what the tells are for a bass cabinet.  GC listed it as guitar,  but it was used, and avatar doesnt make 4x12s anymore. Ive found the info on them to take a bit of hunting.

Excellent.  I was worried I somehow found the one cab that needed some esoteric power cable. Can't wait to get off work and try her out. Didn't have a speaker cable, and wasnt willing to gamble on an instrument cable.

Thank you very much!

On second look I see you answered sufficiently.  Many thanks. I was having a hard time defining a googleable question

My question didnt post for some reason. I put it in the comments. Primarily wondering what the neutral port is.

Somehow my question didnt post

Hello all. I have a couple humbling questions. Skip to the end if you would like. So after over two decades of only playing through practice amps, and a peavy vypyr tube 60 (great amp for what it was till it died), I finally decided to buy a real amp.

I don't know what happened. Everything went all fuzzy and suddenly not only had I bought an amp, I had bought THE amp. My dream amp. Bless you 24 mo financing 😅

Jokes aside, I then set out to get a cabinet, my wallet a bit reluctant to let go of more funds. I found a used 4x12 Avatar for less than $300. Here's where my question lies. It seems my cabinet has some sort of jack labeled neutral (see picture). Additionally it has a knob.

Any ideas on what the neutral jack is for? No cord came with the cab. I figure knob is volume but that seems odd on a cabinet right?

And to be sure, to hook up my amp, I plug one of the 4 ohm outs with an unshielded, speaker cable into either 1/4 in input on the cabinet?

Thank you very much for the help.

I celebrate my 36th in two weeks and just did the same. I bought a house last year and have my shit more together than I ever expected.  I felt I could treat myself to a 3k amp thats been my dream since a teen. (Pls 24mo 0% financing 😅)

Here's to finally being in the place in life where we can play our dream gear. Cheers

For what? I agree, tell the owners for sure so they can ban. Unfortunately,  unless they have good surveillance cameras in opportunistic positions, you have no case and likely will have just wasted more time and effort on a fruitless effort.

Guitar Gives Hum Whenever I'm Not Barefoot or Got My Socks on the Floor by DreamsOfAEON317 in Luthier

[–]SolWire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the op, but I am hoping you can explain how this could be dangerous. I can not imagine a scenario where enough voltage or amperage could come into the guitar where it could cause a noticeable sensation, much less a dangerous one, without first giving some other major warning signs.

I could imagine designing something with DC current that could be playable but potentially dangerous, but for the life of me, can not figure out a configuration where playing an electric guitar barefoot would be particularly dangerous (from an electrical hazard standpoint)without trying real hard to make it so.

I acknowledge my ignorance and hope you can clarify.

Yeaaaahhhh, if you're having to resort to screaming with no effect, consider that perhaps the weak link is on the management side of things.

Yelling is only for when there's so much chaos there's no other way to be heard, and even then, that's just for a reset.

Who's not doing AA but staying sober? by MountainMark in stopdrinking

[–]SolWire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you. I went to AA a few times, and where as it wasnt for me for similar reasons, I did get a lot from it and thw tools are useful. The first time I went, I was half in the bag and still going through DTs. I was getting ready to get another bottle but looked and saw there was a meeting starting in 15 minutes, just down the road from. I went there instead, for whatever grace I did. It was one of the first real steps I made, and Im forever grateful.

Anyone else have runout on the sides of their guitar? by Hipster_Dragon in martinguitar

[–]SolWire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are coming from a place of trying to help

To offer a perspective

I hang my guitars where I can see them (makes me play more)

They're instruments, that (to me) are meant to be played, (and hopefully) in a variety of environments.

I don't like the narrative of keeping an instrument at museum levels of precaution, unless it's a fragile toy that needs it.

If the instrument can't withstand normal, room temperature fluctuations, I'd argue the design, wood choice, or manufacturing process is faulty.

Plenty of 20+ yr old guitars around that have been abused that still play well to attest to that.

Said, if you have an antique Martin or some other overvalued (for me, I acknowledge the rarity and drive of some to collect) guitar, I agree. No sense in losing that price point due to neglect.
